Would you spend this much on a special edition 08 STI hatch?

All engineering works carried out by Prodrive, forged pistons

Considering that's 15k over the standard car.. no I wouldnt. £35k I would pay, if I could afford it lol. I don't think you need anymore than 10k to do a nice rebuild of the 2.5 with forged pistons, decent suspension, and 18s.. might even be budget within the 10k for better brakes too?

Far to expensive for an Impreza.

For that sort of money, I'd get a second hand RS4.
The RS4 would always be worth more too.

same question went through on the evo forums regarding the FQ400 ... got slated because you could build something similar from an Fq340 for much less cash ... also all the sheep jumped on the clarkson bandf wagon. however if you actually drove and owned one you'd see that the extra premium was well well well worth it.

same with any 400bhp special edition scoob. if prodrive are going to spec it and develop it then it's worth every penny ... because you're getting the same people who build the actual rally car building your car ... not some keen enthusiast who thinks he knows about engines.

of course if anything does materialise the argument will be boring just like it was with the evo fq400. people will slate it and the price for no reason. instead of respecting it and the people who are in the position and lucky enough to be able to own and drive something built by rallying gods.

1. 400 pounds+ of torque
2. 6 pots ala RA-R
3. Decent/different covering of recaros, maybe a nice blue
4. call it a Mcrae with union jacks on front wings
Then maybe.
I am pretty sure there will be some sort of ltd edition as they have with held the DBM and the black,

Not certain of the power that can be put through the 08 STi 2.5 bottom end, might be OK

Unlike the earlier Newage STi's the 08 induction WILL need to be replaced, also Turbo, injectors and remap so looking at £3+K IIRC IMHO

T5NYW - ye, hence the huge hike in price to £40k as I said, all the engineering works.

I think around 150 units minimum would have to be sold to get the project under way, I personally cant see that happening.

It will probably go on sale & will be bought by the same sort of enthusiast who bought the fq400, only for subaru lovers.

I need to vote for ALL the options.

1) i'd never have the money and if i did remortgage or whatever, then i'd be worried about depreciation.

2) I'd like to see the final spec and how good it was.

3) I'd like to see and read about the T25 before making the decision.

I would get an 08 though.

I'm not sure about this. Admitedly, I've not driven the FQ400, but a mate who is well and truely part of the darkside (boo) actually bought an FQ360 in preference to one! He said it was overpriced and that the FQ360 was -in his opinon- as quick if not quicker in the real world. He did exaplain why there were better routes to 400bhp in a Evo than what Mitsi had chosen, but I was dozing off and dreaming about giving him a scare with my classic when the FMIC was fitted!

Also, not everyone who picks up a spanner to modify a Impreza produces an inferior product to Prodrive. I'd be just as happy to leave my Impreza with Roger Clark Motorsport or Api for example!

Much as I liked the Classic PPP, simply put, a decat classic with a remap by someone like Bob Rawle significantly bests it in terms of driveability and outputs! Same with the new age, both WRX and STi, good though PPP is, it IS expensive, it IS generic, not custom to your car and you CAN do better than what Prodrive offer!

The real advantages of the PPP/special editions and the FQ400 is that a) you keep the warranty b) Residuals and re-sale will be better, no question! Prodrive and Mitsi Racing have a cache' no doubt.

Just to reiterate, I'm not criticising the PPP, prodrive or FQ400, but in my experience they are expensive in relation to what you get and there are better value money packages out there.

Looks like this will be a 380 bhp special Prodrive built - to - order car, no idea on price.

Was a concept at recent London motor show.
Most of optional extras - quickshift, spoilers, sat nav, push butt0n start etc. 18 " wheels, too, and mentioned brake package and suspension package.

Wonder if / at what price it will come out!

No way

Would buy a 2nd hand 911. Don't care whether it's faster/has more bhp etc. 40k = 911 in my mind!

"Most" Prodrive Special editions start off with the customary, Prodrive Wheels, Prodrive Suspension (bilstiens or Springs) anti-rollbar and Remap. But I don't think this will be quite good enough for the 330S.

It might get "Bums" on seats but may not handle nicely enough to temp Peeps away from there old MY02-07 saloons.

I having driven a few UK, EU & JDM MY08 STi's and with different Suspension setups, the handling good but not great

1) With coilovers, ARB's etc etc on, the chassis still seemed too soft!! Upgrade all the wishbone & suspension link bushes perhaps ;rolleyes:

2) The steering is tooo light, over-assisted between 35-90mph.

To be honest I'd be more interested in a 330S with ATD and built to handle rather than a 400S that may handle OK

IMHO

As for the 380/400S present climate you might see one or two sold, might not

I put 452 bhp through a stock EJ257 bottom end without forged pistons. Did 7K miles without issue.

I agree, £40k is well into tidy 2nd had 911 territory...

But if I needed a quick 5 door?....hmmm... I'd prob get an RS4 with my £40k... I think they'd hold their price better...the STI 380 has a limited market appeal.

For 40K you could buy a car far, far superior to an Impreza, now I bloody love Imprezas hence spending a significant amount of cash on MY07 STi when I bought it from new a year and a half ago and since then spending another few grand on it, however, these cars should never hit that amount and IMO should never be more than £30K regardless of spec as it just defeats the whole purpose of the cars.

A similar principle would be to spec up a corsa to Impreza level with the same power, you are always going to buy an Impreza over the spec'd up Corsa.

In this case for £40K you are always going to go for the likes of an RS4, new M3, M5, Noble, TVR, 911, etc over a £40K Impreza.

40k Puts a Subaru in a whole different ball park and with some major players cost wise.
S/H RS4
S/H New age Skyline
CS/H 996/7's
S/H M3 & M5
in some cases nearly new model so up agianst some tough competition!

I am sure it will go, handle and stop well and has the Subaru/Prodrive Heritage and there will be enough dye-in-the-wool fans who have the mone to buy one.

I am sure the same debate was had when the 22B was launched/released.

I don't think I would to be honest. I suppose part of the attraction for some people when buying a Subaru over most cars is the fact that they are relatively cheap for the amount of performance you get compared to most other cars in its class (ie. the evo, m3, rs4 etc).

SPG - who says subaru have shelved the 380s - is this official?
If so, people will have to wait for the S205, some of the jap boards are speculating some info release from STI after rally japan for 01/09 launch.
again only speculation. But a 6 pot equipped hatch has been testing at the ring.

Subaru doesnt have the class, the image or the heritage to command such a price for a vehicle.
It is also too easy for people to acheive the same figures for a lot less money meaning that the competition is already in place before the product hits the market.

mitsi did it with the 400, they also did it with the 260 but that was to widen the appeal to the cheaper end of the market so was a success.

Subaru could however offer a selection of packages along the lines of the MRFQs 300,340,360 although these were UKDM specific models not actual CCC models iirc.
