My mate's got a handheld GPS. We were travelling down the motorway a couple of weeks ago to the Scooby Kart meet in Warington and it showed that the speedo on my MY01 was about 5-7mph out between 60 and 90.

I am assured that GPS systems are pretty accurate.

measured mile and a stopwatch - The police very kindly put mile markers in the middle of the motorway over here for loons to time themselves over. Always a good idea to check for police with stopwatches first

have a look at:

http://www.performanceexhausts.net/Others.html

Look at the bottom of the page and you'll see the Race Technology Performance Meters, that are for sale from £115 + VAT which is £5 cheaper than they are advertised in EVO.

Sorry for the blatant plug but I thought it would help you out!

My Garmin handheld GPS records the maximum speed (between resets).

Thus you don't have to keep an eye on it whilst driving.

Job done!

Either stop watch & time between posts on motorway. Each post=100meters so 10posts= 1km=.625mls. If you need formula for mph from there let me know. OR SPA MICRO PROCESSER. £160 approx. Easy to fit. V/accurate speed+lots of other info available.Sensor on drive shaft, accurate calc. of tyre rolling circumference & Bobs your uncle. OK? Hope this helps.

Christian

I have a hand held Garmin GPSIII Plus which I use to record max speed in my car, kart, bike and jet boat etc.

It is very accurate.

If you want to try it out in Jersey then let me know and we can go out for a blast if you want? I just upgraded the software so it shows more accurate data of Jersey.

ChristianR,

see http://www.garmin.com/ for an idea of what is available - i personally think that Garmin are miles better than Magellan.

Also see http://www.scws.com/gps/index.html for an idea of prices (thats where i got my eTrex from).

Cool

Blitz DSTT (turbo timer)

Zero the maximum speed display then go 4 it.
Constantly displays max speed achieved
Pretty accurate as well, compared the readings from this to the terminal velocity reading @ the local airfield worked out @ 2mph out @ 105mph.
The AP22 gives similar results, a lot more involved in the setup before use though, but once the car characteristics are entered these can be saved for future runs.

And yeah i lurv buttons n tekno stuff, got both in my mota

Wink

my friend has told me that fiesta speedo is accurate, would this be any good, as i have a spare one in the garage. i couldnt run along side, as my fiesta isnt as fast top speed, due to drag, but i have made some changes, see 'fuel consumption' topic.
give me your thoughts.

thanks

How does your AP22 compare on wheel hp to the rolling road figures ? I was thinking of getting one for tuning purposes.
