Two killed in horror crash: Express & Star

Tragedy struck when the car, driven by the 17-year-old, somersaulted down the road after hitting a Ettingshall railway bridge in the early hours.

It's a sad thing to happen to anyone but what was a 17 year old doing driving the car. Rules need to be brought in to restrict engine size for new/novice drivers.

17?! Surely insurance wouldn't be possible at that age would it? A great shame anyway - it'a just over a year since my brother-in-law died in a car accident along with a friend, brings back memories :-(

I think everyone feels that way. it is a waste of such a young life to go this way.

Often when we read articles in the news about rules and we feel we are being pushed around by the 'nanny state'. this is one of very few examples where a restriction on power should be put in place to save lives of the young and inexperienced.

I am not trying to make a political issue here and please accept my apologies if anybody takes my statement above in that light.

As always our thoughts go out to the families involved.

Sad news, but we dont want a nanny state.

where would it end?

Very sad and the family has my sympathy.

10p says that he wasn't insured or taxed or MOT'ed or something. I know rich teenagers exist, but this one smells fishy.

FWIW I agree on restrictions being placed on novice drivers. I know that comment will generate abuse from "driving gods" who have been carting since they left the womb, but a blanket rule will benefit more people than it harms. Contrary to what many Scoobynetters think it is possible to have more fun in a slow car than a fast one so young drivers would still be able to enjoy fun motoring.

Not far from where I live, that Railway bridge is also on a tight bend really bad when it is wet, don't recognise the scooby from round here.

Oh dear. I dont live near there, but I drove past the bottom of the road at 8am this morning, still blocked by two pandas with their blue lights on. I wondered what ha happened, but the bridge is just obscured.

What a shame.

What a waste ...

I remember back to when I was 17 years old - I would have appreciated someone NOT allowing me to drive something like an Impreza Turbo ..... I would have killed myself, absolutely no question - worse, I may have taken others with me.

Earlier, police had said that the dead were a youth aged 17 and a 20-year-old woman but they later corrected the ages of the victims.

it says it was a 23 year old now so how many 23 yearolds are on here who own a scooby. give the lad a brake he lost it on a s-bend and payed the price we dont know if he was driving like a c*ck or just motoring on a bit we all do it.

RIP

There is a BIG difference in maturity and driving ability from the age of 17 to 23 ..... that's 6 years, a long time when you are 17, it's a third of your life.

Im hesitent to comment without knowing the exact situation, however it is every bit as possible that a 40yr old man could have had the same accident as this 23yr old man without knowing the variables involved.

Its a shame to have lost people soo young regardless of the reasons behind the accident... and it concerns me to read that the 2 individuals that died were both 'Flung' from the car? Makes me ponder whether the provided restraints were in use, because the passenger cell of the car that i can see looks like it stood up to a pretty intense accident pretty well (considering its been cut to pieces by the emergency services aswell.. not alot is actually crushed down).

Now I know I am going to be hammered for commenting negatively about a seriously injured man, but you do not sommersault down the road and get hurled from your vehicle if you are driving even remotely sensibly. Yes, everyone presses on from time to time, but I'm quite happy to stick my neck out and say I reckon this guy was driving like a right tw@t and that is why his passenger is dead. If he was driving sensibly then the worst that would have happened when he hit the slippery road or the dodgy bend would have been a smashed up car and not a fatality. This is a built up area. You do not sommersault down the road if you stick to 30mph!

The 23 year old driver was a provisional licence holder only, the 17 year old girl was in the front passenger seat.

The male in the critical condition was in the rear of the car and was the owner who let the un-insured 23 year old drive.

I know the car because I live and work in the area. The crash happened at half 3 in the morning and there were drugs recovered from both the deceased and the inside the car.

We all have accidents or near misses but I know for a fact the 23 year old was speeding and was under the influence of illegal substances.

How do you this, did you sell the drugs to him and then have a race?

No matter what happened and what was being taken this guy along with the young girl have paid the ultimate price.

Guys just walked past this bridge on our daily walk (exercise). Its not a pretty site at all there is markings on the entrance to the bridge and then in the mouth of the bridge and most scarely there's a mark about 2-2.5 metres inside the bridge the car must have flew in the air through the air. I know I,ve said it before but it brings back that we aren't indestructable, Please lets all slow down a little and think before things do go wrong.

17 eyar old driver, probably under the influence of drugs. No-doubt being egged on by the other occupants.

Do I have any sypathy? Sorry, but I don't. Same as if it had been a stolen car.

I only feel sorry for their families. Just lucky that no other car was involved. Imagine if a drugged up 17 year old had hit a car with innocent people inside.

Would those people on here still have sypathy for the occupants of the Impreza?

You drive with drink/drugs inside you
You drive unisured
You drive a stolen car

You deserve all you get when it goes wrong IMHO

Fair enough, not just someone who knew a mate, who knew a mate etc.

No real sympathy for the situation, tragic for the families though

Tragic as this story is things like this happen daily somewhere in the UK.

In the space of 4 years and within a distance of 3 miles 12 people have died on roads near me.

5 people died on in head on.
4 went off a quarry
a school girl died when the minibus she was travelling tipped over speeding down a hill
a woman died going off the same quarry mention above
another died when she hit a morrisons tractor-trailer head on

thats just the ones that spring to mind

A guy died when he pulled out on another car. He was trapped in the wreckage and rescuers couldnt free him in time before the car went up. He was unconscious so apparently unaware

The roads are a dangerous place. Sorry to state the blindingly obvious.

I can think of loads of other deaths that have occurred local to me over the years. Loads

For what? Expressing a perfectly reasonable opinion?

I don't know the circumstances of this accident so will reserve comment. A couple of lives have needlessly be cut short, and friends and families have now been left to grieve: enough said!

Personally, I do think 17 is too young to be driving a high performance car!
