£290 + vat for 3 year service
Hi all,
I've just been quoted £290 + vat for my 3 year service which seems very cheap. i then phoned somewhere else and was quoted £480, both are subaru specialists. Does this seem too cheap to be true ?
Does a 3 year service include break pads ?
cheers Jase.

Subaru main dealer price for 30k/3yr service is £460inclusive. I don't think pads are ever covered in a service on any car (unless extra cost is specified). Specialists should be cheaper than Subaru though so the cheaper price sounds fair.

The £290 was quoted off a Subaru dealer. He said it's an expensive one for your 3rd service, at this point I thought he was going to quote near £500, then he said £290.

It is an expensive one - the 5yr/50k one has the cambelt done and is cheaper!
Turbo2 - did the pads come in the standard price or were they on top? I've never heard of pads being included in a service schedule as they all get used at different rates depending on driver/usage.

Seems a good price from a dealer for that lot - full synth oil I hope.

I've just been told they don't usually change the spark plugs on the 3 year service, is this correct ?
I told them I have my own to be put on and there didn't seem a problem.

MOT: £50.35 (VAT exempt)
Labour (30,000 mile/3 year Service and rear brake pads): £208.52 + VAT
Labour discount: -£16.68
Sump gasket: £0.88 + VAT
Oil filter: £5.56 + VAT
Air filter: £9.63 + VAT
Rear brake pad kit: £45.52 + VAT
Fuel filter: £21.16 + VAT
Forte Gas treatment: £11.50 + VAT
NGK spark plugs: £38.00 + VAT
Parts discount: -£8.68
Texaco Havoline Extra oil: £24.75 + VAT
Transmission oil: £36.00 + VAT
Antifreeze: £12.50 + VAT
Environment charge: £4.00 + VAT
The labour included: oil & filter change, coolant change, fuel filter change, air filter change, spark plug change, transmission and both diff oil changes, as well as various inspections. The only extra work I asked for was for the rear brake pad change, so you can knock £45.52 + VAT for the pads and some labour off the total for an accurate price. Everything else was according to Subaru's 3 year / 30,000 mile service schedule.
The two discounts were offered because I was having the MOT done at the same time. Hope this helps.

It sounds to me that you have been miss-quoted by the first dealer!
We were dealers for many years and it's virtually impossible for a dealer to carry out this service properly, using genuine parts & dealer hourly rates for the money you have been quoted. If I were you I would take them up on their offer and get a bargain!
We had occasions when receptionists would get it wrong & quoted for the incorrect service. Once the quote had been given we were left with no choice but to honor it!
For your money you should get the same service as listed by Turbo2.
All Subaru Turbo Engines are supposed to have their plugs changed at 30,000 miles.

Edited to say - unless you have an STi, then I guess Brembos are 'mucho dinero' and a damn site more than £250??

The current dealer price for a pair of front discs is £113.76
Athough as has been said, if you have a new age sti you will pay much more!... Between £695 & £855 for a set of front discs & pads.
Anyone with an sti would be much better fitting to the A.P upgrade kit, which consists of a pair of "fully floating" racing discs & bells & ferodo DS2500 pads, which retail for around £740 & work soooo much better than the standard setup.

Alright guy,
It is a kendal official subaru dealer, not sure what they are called as they have just moved lately and someone else has taken overtaken over. I was quoted by the main service guy first, then I phoned back to make sure I was getting the correct service and was speaking to somene else who also quoted £290 + vat, she even said it might even be cheaper. I then said are you getting mixed uo with another service, but was told this is their most expensive service apart from the cambelt one.
I have only done 17k miles in the 3 years so plugs would probably be ok but as i'm getting a remap by Andy soon, I'm changing them for 7's.
I was told they do the gearbox fluids etc with subaru parts and labour so if this turns out ok I'll be well pleased. The reason why I've questioned this so much is because I'm spending quite a bit on the remap and parts, and wanted it running to it's potential after it's 3 year service.

i can't believe there is sooo much difference in price across the board !!
Just up the road they're charging nearly twice as much at £480.
I'll wait 'til I get it done before I comment too much tho !!

It just begs the question, is the 3 year service really worth £400 + ?
2.5/3 hours service + cheap parts @ £40/£50 per hour - work it out !?!?!
I could be totally off the mark tho ?
