Cambelt Replacement
What would be the expected charge for this job, on it's own?
4 years ago I paid £660 for a full cambelt service, as the warranty was important then ...... I have no urge whatsoever to repeat that sting - but would like to get someone else to do the cambelt (then if it snaps I am not looking at paying the repair bill).
MY00 Classic - 8 years old in May 2008 ..... that's the belt due time according to the book. Should anything else need replacing while they are there? Rollers? Idlers?

No expert on scoobs. IMHO pretty much any kit these days consists of the belt/belts. rollers and tensioners to suit.
do you plan to use genuine parts?
would you consider non-gen if the same or better quality and/or a specialist reccommeded them?
There is no official OE equivelent cambelt "kit" for the Impreza (well, not unless its happened very recently). Retailers may source a belt, and pulleys sperately then sell it on as a "Kit" but its not like the official kits that Gates sell for say, a Mondeo.
Subaru practice is to replace just the belt - and nothing else, but inspect condition of pulleys and tensioners and replace them on an indvidual basis if needed. Due to that, no kit is offered.
Pete, I would expect at that age at least several idler pulleys will need replacing by now. Unless they were replaced last time.

It looks a simple job and I would do it myself and do/have on my other cars - but the costs if the Impreza engine snaps a belt are too great to risk getting it wrong.
Yes Pete + the dreaded VAT = £217.00
I paid £444 inc VAT
Cambelt, Silkolene race oil + Filter, Plugs, K&N filter £379 + Vat
I'm only 10 mins away from Scoobyclinic, its peace of mind to have it done properly.

Pete,
I have a used belt for sale if you want it? £500 plus postage and delivery!
Only joking Pete!
I used scoobyclinic about 4 years ago and they charged me £125 plus vat for the whole job. I think the tensioner was replaced too, but at an extra cost.
Wayne.

Subaru4U will get a call from me in May .... I'll get the cars through their respective MOTs and Service them all first.
Subaru4U website could be better, don't you think? Just as an aside.

With all due respect, if it's an UPRATED Belt then surely a guarantee of only 40,000 miles is just saying it is guaranteed to last less than the standard one
Surely it should be a 80,000mile guarantee or something if it's uprated??

A quote I had yesterday:
"prices as follows
cambelt £86.10 + vat
tensioner £40.22 + vat
rollers 3 of at £33.43 +vat each
Labour £120 + vat
I have listed it all seperate as we wont no which rollers if any need replacing until we strip it but worst case you will need all of the above but usally just the belt and tensioner."
