Default please help!!

I have just been to a local garage for the machanic to listen to my engine because i can hear a knock the guy said it's the crank shells and best do it soon because it will get alot worse.. can anyone give me some advice on how much im looking at for a machanic to to take the engine out, replace the shells, put it back together..

any advice is much appreciated

if i were you before getting shells changed go to another garage and seek a second opinion.
and take it from there.

It's not just a case of changing the big ends - if the crank is scored then your looking at a new crank,main bearings and big ends ( regrinding the crank is not recommended ).The rods may be worn if the bearing(s) have spun.
Also,the debris from the nackered bearings will have gone through the oil pump,modine,and the oil gallerys in the block and heads - so its a quite a big job to strip and clean.

short version, your looking at a rebuild, which will prob run into a few grand. but that assumes the diagnosis is correct
