Thumbs up

Just read an article from the Manchester area concerning a bloke with a Toyota Supra and a wheel clamp, it goes as follows:-

An illegally parked motorist escaped a clamp by jacking up the affected wheel of his car, deflating the tyre, removing the clamp from the deflated tyre and depositing the clamp on the pavement. He replaced the flat with the spare and drove off.

Now, I reckon that as he didnt damage the clamp then no offence was committed - its interesting - has anyone any idea if it would work on a Scoobie wheel????

Why are you in the habit of getting clamped ?

Anyway, shouldn't this be in the Muppet forum ????

What's the biggest wheel size they can get a clamp over?

Also, can they clamp a lowered car where the tops of the tyres are not visible?

Weddings off? what am I to do with the gallon of after shave I bought then??? will the scoobie run on it??

By the way rumour has it that you have gold wheels? so I am afraid that your taste is non-existant and so the wedding should be called off until you get some class and ditched those tacky wheels!!!

Kurt - cant answer that - if the clamp wont go over then it cant be fitted surely??

What do you mean rumour has it ..... I've always been up front about that ... even said it to you yesterday ..... gold wheels come standard on Cats .... (mind you I've always had reservations myself about the gold wheels) ...

as for the aftershave .... throw it over the sheep .

KurtW ... why don't you change your car to a Citroen ... those old ones where the wheel arches cover half the wheels ... then you'd never be clamped

I came across a sheep with a load of aftershave on in the middle of Swansea last summer - it was tied up to a lampost - I ask about it in the Tourist Information Office .. They said it was the Liesure Centre!!

The "Derby Evening Telegraph" 10 years or so ago had a double page colour spread on how to remove a wheel clamp - pretty much as described here - stuck in my mind for some bizarre reason. Heard little about it since until this story which was on the news recently - someone had caught it on CCTV. The Derby rag's campaign was against private clampers errantly clamping folk. Now I am in Scotland, there is no private clamping apparently - illegal? Anyway, in England if you are clamped by a private company, the article said you could legally remove it, but you had to return the clamp to them as "lost property". You could not damage it and you could not leave it by the road otherwise they could bill you! However, if the police clamped you the advice was that you would get into big trouble if you removed it. Presumably might be difficult the larger the wheel/the lower the profile of the tyre, but apparently just need a matchstick to deflate the tyre after jacking up the car and then progressively rotating the wheel to get the nuts off and when the wheel is free, the wheeel can be eased out of the clamp - not tried it though - don't know if it really is this easy. May be different if the wheel clamp sheilded all the nuts? I think the Supra guy drove his car fwd/bwd a bit to get the clamp off.

John - thanks for that - yes, it would seem impossible if the nuts on the wheel are completely covered?? What about drilling holes to get to the nuts?? I know, its damaging it - I personall would go buy a bolt cutter and cut the damn thing off - they would have to be big buggers to stop me too!! I wouldnt remove a police one though - its the private lads that get me.

Fleet? when? Service station? we could get married then!!
