Import or rebuilt classic
With import classics being mapped for high ron rated fuel......
1 is it best to go for a fresh import
2 or one that has had a recent engine rebuild in the UK
3 one that has been remapped for uk fuel .

Good question, I'm considering going for a classic STi but a lot of them seem to have had engine rebuilds. How much would a full engine rebuild cost on a classic STi?

If you get a good example with a rebuild then I think well worth it but depends on the age?
My car was pretty much a fresh import when I got it, had a basic v6 ecu chip flash with a generic map to cope with Shell V-Power and so far not had any issues.
Running just over standard STi bhp figures, done about 28k on clock, with fresh fluids is ticking over okay. I know the earlier STi/RA's had the closed deck blocks which offer potential for big power.
If your going for an import, try to get one from a good supplier, get it fresh with good history and spend a little money to get it mapped the same time you get a free flow exhaust/filter etc (unless it has got one).
From what I have read the v5 engine's were a bit suspect but not sure if this was just for a particular set of Impreza's or a batch of the engine builds.

So about £2700 including VAT, add in any extra work required your looking at £3k?
Labour is priced at an hourly rate of £45 +vat
A build can take anything from 30 to 50 hours.

Buy a classic import as standard, mod it like you want it then get it mapped the way you want it. Best way as it's all to your specs. Your not gonna have someone else's project and specifications.

yeah i was told you would be lookin at between 2.5k and 3k for a rebuild and thats just a standard one with no uprated items.and at the end of the day its always a gamble something could go wrong with any of the options
