M3 OR COSSIE OR SCOOBY.......HELP DECIDE PEOPLE
Hi just joined the site and need some help............. sold my 05 gti golf and want 300 bhp+. Cant decide between a 02 m3, escort cossie or impreza (wr1 0r p1) gonna be a weekend car so mpg going out the window. Had a wrx 5 years ago and loved it. broke my heart to sell it but it was breaking my bank balance keeping it. spent more time in garage than on road. my friend currently selling his 02 sti but rather a p1 or wr1. im even thinking of going over to the dark side an getting fq!!! so what do ye think people give me some feedback ???

ifits a E46 M3 then deffo that !!!
the escort cossie has dreadfull build quality inside, i used to have a 2wd saph cossie and that was MUCH more powerfull on motorways ( about 350bhpish )
but the scoobie is better on bends ect,, country lanes is fun too
i was looking at a M3 or scoobie when i bought my scoobie but it was a E36 M3 evo
was boring as hell !!! hence i bought a scoobie

Cossie if you want fun, excitement and soul. (Wont depreciate, getting on now, parts are becoming difficult to source, rust?)
Scooby if you want fast A to B, best pace in the real world. (Great car, doesnt have that cossie specialness, common as muck)
M3 if you want a nippy car with goot build quality and clinical german performance. (Classier than the other 2 but even more souless, great chassis, easily available parts)

cossies aint that much when they go wrong tbh, just some garages charge over the top
the problem with cossies is there old cars meaning more worn parts/old electrics
the reason i would have another cossie is the rust issues rather than the engine issues, but then ive got most of a cossie engine hanging about my house already

thanks ginge. i have contact with a rsoc member who also owns garage and reckons his imperial blue cossie be coming up for sale soon so sounds good at least id be able to see it up on ramp and check for rust and have a good mechanic here who loves working on high performance cars and is very reasonable. i also want to take into account what will be easier sold again cos over here high performancecars are minority due to mental insurance quotes

my advice if getting a cossie is dont take it anywhere lese but MSD in blackpool, they check the car over, presure test the car for air leaks and fuel presure ect ect ect before even working on the car,, then give you a folder with the details of all work done, what the car was like before and after and what else needs doing to it
i took my cossie there and ive made 4 other people go there, who after saying its too far now ALWAYS go there too and recomend them to others
btw if you get a cossie a stage 3/t34 is a min, otherwise they feel like they loose power at the top end on a T3

Depends which one you like more really...
If you do end up going for an M3 make sure it's the E46 the newest one looks crap and don't perform aswell as what the E46 does.
If you choose Subaru the P1, WR1, 22B and Type R in my own opinion are the better ones but other people might think different.
Cossie's well a mate of mine used to have one and yeah they're good but not that good in my opinion. If they'd thought about the build quality better then the car would have been better. Looks ace and goes like stink.
DO NOT GO FOR AN EVO!!!! Don't like them and never have. I don't even think they look good compared to the Subaru's.

the escort cossie is well.............a ford escort, a fast one, but a ford escort,
the m3, v v nice motor, questionable image and you'll make friends with a bodyshop due to the keying that beemers seem to attract,
you are not allowed to say evo on scoob forums,
so WR1 it is then

Always wanted a cossie but by the time I could afford one they seemed outdated so got my first impreza, had it 2.5 years and loved it, then got another one, had it 3.5 years loved it even more, then got a WR1 with 2400 miles on it, hated it with a passion, got rid of it after ten months with all illusions shattered, now got a E46 and its great.

I think an m3 is totally different car to what your after. I'd get an impreza. Cosi's are a bit old school boy racer. An m3 is a great car but if you want to have fun get the impreza. I was going to go down the same m3 route but thought again. Running cost's, insurance everything is alot higher.

Depends on how you drive and where you want to drive.
For RWD fun and a good cruising car the M3 is great, I had the E36 Evolution model, a riot for getting the **** out and awesome on the long motorways and carriage ways. If your driving short journeys and around town they can get boring as you won't really be using the car properly.
Cossie's are my favourite but they have bit of an image problem, you need to spend some money to get one in good condition and then maintain it - plus points are the power figures, very easy to get, bit of a hooligan car to drive, minus points being it's an old car so will not have the luxuries you might be used to.
Scooby, if your after a well equipped good performer go for a newage model STi (with ppp if you can). Great all round performance car with an aggressive style. If your after a car that puts you a bit more in touch with the road then go for a classic shape STi (if you only plan to do short trips and b road blasts look at something like a STi Type R or the Type RA).
P1, Type R, great 3 door scoobies with plenty of performance.
I think the E46 M3 is one of the best looking M3's made, newage styling with hints of the E30 M3 muscle car but I wasn't impressed by the drive, felt sluggish and not what I thought it would be.
However the M3 CSL is a different animal

I took a M3 (don't know what Emodel - 2004) for a long test drive and I was very disappointed. Dull as dishwater in my opinion, yes it was fast, great build quality and comfy but should a performance car be comfy . Personally I just don't get the whole M3 thing .
Test drive, test drive, test drive and do your research thats my advice. All your mentioned cars have pluses and minuses to ownership, down to personal choice in the end.

M3 allday everyday
why subaru drivers don't like them is because, you have to be a decent driver to get the best out of them, go to some trackdays or the nurburgring!!!!, see what happens to subaru's when up against a decent driver around the ring in an M3, even an E36,!!!!
impreza is good fun , fast, but you'll end up modifying it, them it will go wrong etc the biggest thing in the impreza's favour is that they make a poor/average driver look good!!
escort cosworth is something you don't buy using your head !!, cult status and everyone would love to own one, but know the running costs plus it would seem cruel to thrash it within an inch of its life

If you've got 15 grand, then escort all the way mate, you won't drop a carrot when you come to sell it, and they are good for 550 bhp all day long without going bang! theres still plenty of minters out there, 1 owners with low miles etc. as long as it's been looked after you won't have any problems - engines are bullet proof if done right! and if you can find a t4 turbo and get the eight injectors plumbed in, nothing this side of the millenuim falcon is gonna keep up with you!

m3=nice cars but get boring after a while and are like a clitoris , every ***** got one
scoob = lovely cars , fun to drive easily tunable but can be a money pit aswell
there are plenty of other options outthere so look around .

mate have you ever been in a cossie ???
why do people give such crap advice ?
t4 and 8 injectors is on a RS 500,,, though the ecu wont run it anyway !!!, was for homologation purposes only !!!, they only run the 4 injectors
cossies are good for 380bhp TOPS before head needs porting/cams doing,,,getting 450bhp from a cossie is ALOT of money,,,,,,, bullet proof engines ???,,,,,, THERE OLD CARS THAT HAVE BEEN RAGGED FOR THERE ENTIRE 15 YEAR LIFE !!!
i had my cossie for 2 years, lots of my mates still got cossies as im still involved in the ford scene,,,,,, they are FAR from bullit proof !!!
just look at our last ring trip to get a idea of the bullit prrof engines,,,, 2 of em went as passengers due to engine failure, a freshly rebuilt ( again due to it letting go last year at the ring) with NO EXPENCE SPARED packed up on the way round the ring !!
dont sell them as something there not !
they old cars wih ****e build quality and shady history in some cases !
though i loved my cossie i would never get another one due to the price of parts !!!,,,,, to remove the head on a cossie will cost 400 quid in parts before labour is even thought of !!!
