Looks like i might be driving from North scotland to Kent this weekend in the scooby.
Think its roughly 900 miles down and then 900 miles back up the weekend after.
Has anyone else ever driven this sort of distance in a scooby? and encountered any problems? I have a 97 wrx-sti with very solid suspension, have to say I aint looking forward to it.

1050Km - just over 600miles in a 1981 Escort 1.6 4 speed (Paris to Nice - that was in 1992 on honeymoon) with a range of 185miles and the Stiffest rear springs Ford fitted (ERST S2) in a day, driving solo, felt fine at the end even though it took over 11.5 hours due to the farmers blocking two roads with burning straw to complain about something (reduction in CAP probably)....

ive done london to scotland in a nissan 350z and done london to germany in a bmw 325

done loads of london to blackpool runs,,,,,, no big thing tbh as the scoobie is ok on a run tbh

doing blackpool in a stripped out fiesta with carbon bucket seats/no padding and harnesses from london aint fun,,,, good job i was following in the BMW pmsl

The most Ive done in mine was 300miles at last years rally GB, don't envy you doing 900 though! If you stick to 70 all the way you might get away with a 180 quid fuel bill lol! Some people don't advise long fast runs in cars with a standard bonnet scoop but I dont see how normal motorway speeds would be a problem. Good luck

so should be no problem then. I did drive the car up from blackburn a month or so ago when I first bought it and it managed that ok i guess.

Travelled from Wigan to the VERY south of France and back in my old MY99 5 door Turbo.

All in did about 3500 miles in 2 weeks.

Scoob never missed a beat.

Did the same in a new shape Grand Espace a couple of years later and the car must of known it was near home because it ran fine. Before we went and after we got back it was constantly at the stealers getting some problem or other sorted! What a bag of cr@p that car was!!!

Back with a blobeye PPP 5 door now though.

yea i dont plan on driving too fast,between 60-80 on good roads, maybe a couple of bursts of higher speed i know the fuel will cost about £200 quid each way but the girlfriend is paying for it as she's the reason i have to drive to Kent. would rather not go if it was up to me. dont think the weather is meant to be good in scotland this weekend either and I need to do an oil change before i go.

Driving to Aberdeenshire from London/Kent (about 550 miles) in a few weeks with the missus and 2 kids - don't have any worries. Just do the usual checks - oil, tyre pressures etc. and you should be fine.

Years ago I was sitting on a beach in the South of France when it dawned on me that I had nearly ran out of money. So got in the car, Mini, with g/f at the time and drove back to London non-stop aside from Ferry crossing. I'll never forget it and will never do it again

Drove from Lyon to Stafford in a landrover once - All the way (Apart from the ferry obviously) in day. Its was bloody awful!

Normal motorway speeds are fine mate; it's just some model year TMICs don't work nearly as well at 3 figure speeds.

Done Plymouth to Ayr via York which was about 750 ish miles in one go. Cost me a hell of a lot more than £200 (one way) in fuel by the way. The car was fine especially the coastal roads!

how bad are they at 120/130ish for long perods ( like on autobahns ect ) ife got some gay larger new age bonnet scoop on the bonnet,,,, which i will be changing unless i need it

Im surprised to see that it was only 617 miles! Goodwood to Stuttgart, on the first leg of last years Scumball3000, with a couple of hours waiting for the ferry.

would it not be more than 550 miles? as it took 500 miles from me to get from where i live(100 miles north of aberdeen) to Blackburn. aberdeen to edinburgh is about 160 miles and it was over 250 miles from edin to blackburn. maybe 550 is how the bird flies or have you done it before?

I've done 600 miles in a 1.2 P reg 2dr Vauxhall Corsa. Wouldn't advise doing it again like it's tiring boring and rather s****y tbh. As for doing it in a scoobie I've noticed in mine that the bonnet tries to lift up when I'm pushing 150+mph which is scary at the thought of it but your not gonna be doing them kinda speeds to often down to Kent as the coppers are up and down most of the roads there.

1100 miles 22 hrs.

drove through whole europe, one way 2000 km and the same back, in Germany constantly above 180kph, but even 240 kph. Car takes it with no problems as it should. It is a my05 sti ppp. And recently after remap by JGM, car still runs nice, did 1100 km through Germany again, mostly 200 kph, car is mint. But also my previous bugeye could handle it perfectly. It is a passanger car after all.
I think if your car is set up correctly it will handle it, if not you will break the car either way

I used to quite regularly go from the south of Sweden to the north of Finland... it's about 1350km and it used to take anywhere from 15 to 20 hours depending on if it was summer or winter and if it was me on my own or with another driver.

If you're driving long distances alone, *do* make sure you rest regularly, especially as David Lock says in the small hours. I always found 2 to 4 am worst. After that the body seems to adjust to it quite OK.

Also, if you're tired, it really helps if you can stop off and sleep for maybe 20-30 minutes... It's not great, obviously, but it will keep you going (possibly not uber safe, but it will stop you falling asleep at the wheel, hopefully).


Worst one ever was when we started driving and after about 15 minutes had heavy snowfall and after about 45 minutes there was about 20 cm of snow everywhere on the road... couldn't see where we were going and it was **** out action in every bend... after a while an artic flew past us and we could drive in its tracks quite comfortably... for some reason the lorries seem to be able to step on it a lot more in snow (or maybe they're just crazier)...

Chamonix (France) to Bristol in my Nissan GTi-R. 12hrs door to door, 750 miles.

Up boarding at 8am-1pm, It was the last day of our season (5m) out there, so rode real hard.

Packed, left at 2pm, home at 2am (obsolutely shagged).

115 the whole way on the frenchy side. The GTi -R was faultless, noisey and had to stop loads just to fill it up. I still remember power sliding almost the length of a lift station car park in the snow. Good times.

Don't know where you're going from/to, but John o'Groats to Eastbourne works out at 758 miles, so I reckon you're going a funny old route to do 900 miles!

Furthest I've driven in a Scooby is Freiburg in South Germany to Preston - Aprox. 14 hours driving! The real pi$$ take is that the journey across Europe to Calais was 2/3 distance but less than half the time!!!

Distance was around 750 miles and the Scooby was faultless!

Furthest I've done is from Las Vegas to Los Angeles & Long island then back again in a day, that involved a car crash too when I get t-boned at a junction

Done Essex to Loch Lomond and Essex to Trier in Germany a couple of times.

My scoob behaved impeccably with no problems what so ever!
