Mitsubish FTO top speed
some lad at work has a mitsi fto and reckons it is running 340bhp and has done 174mph in it, anyone know what the top speed of these cars is?
its the 2.0 v6 mivec engine with aftermarket air filter

had a search came up with this 300+ bhp Mitsubishi FTO and this Mitsubishi : Mitsubishi FTO GPX Ralliart Mivec Turbo (reduced)

You wouldn't get that out of an FTO.
They are nice cars though and that V6 is a lovely motor.
I've had a UK turbo Impreza and an FTO. The FTO was as quick as the Impreza (only 2WD and a much lighter car) and IMHO the FTO is prettier than the Impreza...

Nope totally agree with Microstar. I had one for about two years. 197 bhp standard, gorgeous induction and engine note. Usual iffy plastics interior but no worse than subaru at all.
Standard easy as quick as a wrx and i believe 50 -80 mph actually faster since it weighs little and revs to 8250rpm pulling strongly all the way through thanks to the MIVEC system.
Interesting handling too. for a FF car if you pushed it they actually lose the back end first. Catches people out. Still looks modern and in many ways resembles much newer and more expensive motors.
Electrics were a bit dodge though and early ones have a roof rust issue.
Ralliart cars were 'official imports' which means for the purposes of insurance they are still an import.

I think a couple of the guys in the FTO OC were running that sort of power. One had a Galant VR4 twin turbo motor and the others were standard engines with a turbo on. All front wheel drive. Fastest was a tiptronic too. 0-60 in 5 or less i believe (depending on conditions)

No, valid whatever your name and occupation. The FTO has 'mini-Aston Martin' looks from the front. Imprezas (whichever model) are a bit ugly from most angles, if we're being honest. Its not really a valid comparison anyway, because the FTO is a coupe and the Impreza's a saloon.

Surprisingly quick little cars. Everybody I knew who owned one had nothing but good things to say about them and definitely one of the best cars I ever owned. Its a pity Mitsubishi never followed up with a newer version.

I never heard of electrical issues (mine was 100% reliable). Roof rust affected certain colours IIRC (dark blue, black and burgundy).

Electrically, the climate control box goes wrong in a lot of them - lots of owners swapped them out. gain, exactly same unit as in the Evo.
Mine was brilliant though, fast, great to drive and very reliable. As you said, shame they never did another.

174MPH PMSL! ~ the only way you'd get that kind of speed out of an FTO would be if you push one off a cliff..
