Question Is piston slap something to worry about on a MY99/00 car

I know that piston slap is common on a MY98 but what are the chances of a MY99 car have it? I haven't looked at any Scoobs yet but I don't want to travel say 60 miles to find the cars got piston slap.

Does it affect the engine and progressively get worse over time or nothing to worry about?

A lot of 99 cars suffered this (mine did) but never ever got worse, it was fine when warm.

when you go make sure that he starts it from cold i.e. feel the bonnet etc. but i'm sure you'll knwo that.

good luck mate

No, it masks it!

Not really a problem, had it one my old red sccob. The guy who bought it from me said that TSL told him the big-ends had gone. Funny how the noise went when warm.

Mine does it too. Same as above, gone when warm. Sometimes the boost solenoid can be a bit clicky too. Apparantly if you give it a clean it sorts it out.

ok,masks the the noise, but isn't better to put a slightly thicker oil in to mask it if your not going to start taking the engine apart!!!

Funny that because when i took it to work the next day it was!! It doesn't just start doing it over night, the car had been like that for a bit. The car was warm when i got to yours so i guess thats what you was hiding.

I know this might be common but it's not a good thing. The knocking is caused by worn piston bores. An engine is worth nothing without compression.

I thought it was caused by slight wear on the base of the piston skirt, not bore wear ?

Mine never had it but the 1st engine had terminal detonation due to MAF failure which IS a risk with an MY99/00 car - treat the MAF as a consumable & change it once a year & fit a Knocklink if you are of a nervous dispostion. The new second engine did not have it either.

AFIAK it was caused by machining tolerances on certain cylinders.
