Insurance-WARNING!
Had my renewal notice through the other day from Privilege-£495 for an 06 sti
Brilliant i thought but reading through they had my car down as a WRX SL. Typing error maybe
.Better check, i phoned them up and they said its not a typing error. They had put my car down as a WRX SL instead of an STI for the last year!!
Apparently they would have honored the contract if anythin did happen coz its their fault.
Just a warning to you all- check they've got your details right! Because if anythin did happen i would hate to test that theory.

mine also came up as a wrx sl when i did an online quote i rang them up to say its a wrx ,but even before i bought the car from the dealer the car came up as an sti on their webpage and sti came standard with a tracker didnt they? so i asked if it had a tracker they said no so i said i dont want it and in the end i got a free tracker
Direct line had two digits the wrong way around for my Focus 1.8 (S917 instead of S197) I done a reg check online and it came back as a Fiat.
I only noticed this when I came to replace my windscreen through Autoglass.

Im insured through a certain well known person on here also,but last years certificate said 'Spec C' and i want this years to say the same.In case in the event of theft etc they based everything on an STi which is significantly less in value
When I went for my first insurance on the car it came up as a WRX STi WR1 !!! What's that all about? It is a MY05 WRX registered at the end of 2005. No way on this planet that it could have been a WR1. Seems it has been fixed nowadays and shows up as WRX (261) ie. with PPP which is what it should be.
'Some' brokers/Insurance Salespeople will do almost anything to sell a policy!
A 'mistake' can make a Policy with them look very good .... but that 'mistake' gives you grief later on if there is a need to claim.
I check and double-check everything ..... it's the only way to be sure of what you have actually bought - there are numerous 'underwriting tricks' that can be pulled to sell you a Policy.
Tread carefully out there and question why a Policy may look so much cheaper than others .......

I had my old wrx insured through NFU Mutual (dont laugh - it was a good quote) for several years, but when I came to change cars they told be they "dont insure imports" even though my previous policy documents said "wrx".... Hmmmm, went elsewhere...
Just goes to show not all insurers actually know what they are insuring & you must double check any mistakes becaus eif you dont correct them they are entitaled to void your policy if they deem it appropriate.
Thought when you give them your car reg it comes up what make, model etc? Think your right when you say that theres alot of tricks that insurance companies are pullin, undercut your best quote even if its the wrong model-paid on commission maybe???

I agree it is better to go with a company that knows what the car is to start with. Im with gary, after Direct Line asked me if my front STI strut brace was a wrap around bull bar
and then asked me to describe exactly how the TSL back box affected the performance

my 1997 uk turbo came back as a n/a wagon 1.6 on the insurance cert. I was not happy as I thought maybe that's what they had quoted me for and my insurance is going to double 
thankfully when I rang to queation they told me it was a typo and sent me a new cert.
I'm sure though if I had an accident and tried to claim ot would not be a typo then lol

With the Spec C/Type 20/S202 etc the cars are not listed on the SSP computer system, which means we have to get the insurers to manually issue the certificate at their end.
Ref the original post, there used to be a big problem with a couple of the 'big' insurers, where they were just entering make, model and engine size into the computer system and picking a car from the list, hence a friend of mine left me and went elsewhere to insure his Escort Cosworth, as he was quoted half the rate that i could do. When his documents arrived, and the paperwork was for an Escort RS2000. He phoned them to advise them of the error, only to be told that all 2000cc Escorts are the same.
Needless to say he cancelled the policy and came back to me
