STi 7 is basicly the Bugeye Impreza 2001-2002. Subaru never officially named them 7,8 etc etc it's just a simplified way of telling them all apart

Sti 1 was , funnily enough, the first Sti and would be a 94/95, Model Year 95 on an M plate. Sti 2 on N plate etc. The main change was 1996/96 MY97 which would be a facelift version 3 on a P plate. From then on the engines were stronger, steel crank, forged pistons etc. They also rev to 8,250 rpm, rather than the older versions 1 & 2 which rev to 7,500 rpm and have what is commonly believed to be the best heads from the classic shape Sti's. Many people doing even 2.5 litre conversions use the Sti 3 heads.

And they follow the obvious pattern 2001-2002 STI v7 (mine !) bug-eye !
Then blob-eye model 2002-2003 STI v8
etc.

Yip, cosmetically its an 8 (blob), but drivetrain is a 9 (as above + 115 rather than 100 pcd), and the engine is an 8 (EJ20 rather than EJ25).
I think thats the only really confusing one, and I hope I've got that right myself!

No such things as STi7,8, 9 10 etc etc.
Why can't people just talk about it the correct way. I drive a MY07 STi, simple.
