Hi all,
i know this is a often repeated and tiredsomme subject but can someone explain exact. what the tyre sizes mean eg 205/45/17 i know the 17 means the wheel size or circumf. i think 205 means width and is the 45 like the thickness or profile eg35 is low profiles and 45 or 50 arnt so thin? thanks all should have my sti up and running for summer after the big ends decided the didnt want to play ball

 

the 45 in the size youve given is the height of the wall. Your other suggestions are correct. 205 width of tread. 17inch wheel size.

 

to elaborate on the above....

the 205 is the width of the tyre in mm

the 45 is the percentage of the tyre walls height in comparison with the width of the tyre, ie 45% of 205mm

the 17 is the rim size in inches
