The Spec C is a light weight version no sound proofing but a driver Car and far better for a trackday to, some peeps can find it too harsh live with if Commuting, you need to try one first
The RB320 is probably the best UK Car thats new enough but you need £25K+
IMHO

If you have had a EVO you'll best bet is get a JDM STi or a Spec C

Typical spec of a Spec C as per my plus profile
TX.
Edit
Jap STi's are about 300-320bhp as standard however a few simple mods will see 350-370bhp.
My car is used everyday & I've no probs with that.

The later JDM STi's (2003 models onwards) are all twin scroll turbo's, far nicer to drive than a uk car because the power is much more progressive, also they produce more torque thoughout the rev range, on the spec c the headers are modified over the standard STi, and the MY03 models (spec c has this standard, 17 inch version, (16 inch version is the motorsport and misses some key components out, not recommended to buy as they are designed to be stripped and raced), optional on certain JDM models, not an option on uk cars) come with the A-DCCD, which means you can play around with the torque settings front to rear (also JDM cars have quick rack steering )
Better all round car, nice if its mapped for UK fuel, most push around 300bhp out of the box, MY05 cars onward were slightly modified and push slightly more bhp as standard (10 or so).

You'll not get much of a warranty on the JDM cars (mine had 12mnths from purchase) as they're all imports of course so no Subaru warranty. UK cars will have a 3yr warranty but are slower & have less toys on them
My car is prob £15k or so without mods so you might get a 05/55 plate for £16k?

You did ask about the RB*** thought I'd tell you the price
You should look for a STi avoid cars with coilover suspension then
If you go for a UK Car try for a MY05 (DCCD) model definately with Prodrive Performance Pack 305Bhp
If you go for a Jap(JDM) you should get a MY04-05 340-350Bhp
IMHO

I'm wondering if this is a wind up??
Evo Owner coming over to the dark side??/
The reality is, Bog Standard Evo's have a much higher BHP than a Scoob.
Why would they want to pend £16,000 on a Scoob then some more to get it up to Evo ratings????
regards

So either he's noticed how many do OR it's a **** take ?
Would suggest a WRX as the ride comfort is important, more than power, or handling.
For a real toy STI is needed, JDM if toyed up !

thanks for your replys so far and no its not a wind up,im just thinking about a change thats all.the last couple of posts make it sound like i must be mad for thinking of going for a scooby to replace my evo.my reasons are that a scooby should be cheaper to run, softer ride as mine is hard as nails and just more suitable for pottering about.

If your after a UK spec, rarer model and don't mind the colour try a WR1. They are around now in the 15k price bracket (was 30k brand new in 04). The WR1 is a limited edition model built in celebration of Petter Solberg winning the WRC. It comes with uprated bits and bobs including approx 320(ish)bhp straight from Subaru.
In my opinion they are very good cars but then again so are all scoobs .

Scoobs & Evos are pretty interchangeable aren't they? Similar power & performance with just the handling & noise being different. Handling wise the Evo is a bit "safe" whereas the Scoob is a bit more "demanding". The noise of the Scoob of course is awesome compared to the Evo even in the JDM's where the burble has been replaced by a race car howl.

Go for a spec c if you like driving, i just got mine for £14500 (see my scooby), bought it of great chap who looked after it well and was a genuine car.If you going to get an import check it out properly and get one which has only had 1 UK owner and imported by someone reputable i.e Litchfields
If you want to go for something bit civilized a UK spec with PPP, but you will spend a lot on it to get it to go like a spec c.
Or like wolfie says get a WR1 if u like the colour

Hi,
I came from the darkside but had owned a classic a few years before that. I came from a EVO VI TME still regarded as the best Evo. Anyway I bought a MY05 STI PPP with all the prodrive goodies on it including the prodrive 18" wheels. I find the the STI a more invlving drive and more of a challenge than the EVO however it was a great car but I felt the STI was the better all rounder. The MY05 blobeye is regarded as the best newage incarnation by the press so if you are looking for a UKDM scoob than thats the one to go for.
If you can get your hands on a MY05 STI with all the prodrive STI goodies on it I think you'll be looking around the 16.5K mark for a low mileage minter if the owner knows what they have.
I was thinking of getting rid of mine last week but I've decided to keep it and use it as a deposit for the new Nissan GT R
