Default Panel Filters? Worth getting one?

Going to get my 05 UK STI PPP remapped soon. Just wondering if it was worth putting an STI, Green or similar panel filter in first. Do they really make any difference?

I have the Green Panel filter sat in my garage at present, looking to change the midpipe on mine soon and get a remap but just in the process of picking a place to do it.

Cheers

I've a K&N on mine, I had it fitted when I got my cat-back exhaust. It certainly hasn't caused me any problems. Sounds a little louder too.

Wink

I have had them and not had them on my various Impreza's, never ever noticed a fraction of a difference, other than being around £40 worse off financially.

Whilst you might not see the improvement, the mapper may.

So have I.
Got it fitted together with new NGK plugs before Andy Forrest remapped it(MY05 UK STI PPP).
Does it make a different - difficult to tell.
But before it was remapped it definately felt a bit different - more willing to go!
Having said that it had a service/new plugs/STI panel filter all done at same time so any one of those would probably have had an impact.

On paper, in theory, my friend, maybe so, but NOT in real world daily driving. What use is that to anyone???

337 BHP, 324 LB FT

See post #120 in here
https://www.scoobynet.com/ireland-no...session-4.html

1.4 bar available from 2,700 until 7,000. 1.25 bar thereafter

Completly different car now.

Andy did make a point of telling me that the MY05 cars are the best of the whole lot as Subaru had sorted out all issues with this model.
He also reckons that with a decat downpipe you're looking at 350 BHP.
From my point of view and MOT etc its not worth it.

How do you work that one out? Every couple of services they will replace the paper one at a cost of £15. My K&N panel cost just over £30 and lasts for 1million miles So it pays for itself there. Then you come to science and the properties of a paper one are poor in comparison to the mesh/oli filters. You will also hear a better induction noise, which is worth the money alone

Bottom line - this is a no brainer of a mod! Should be done on all sports/performance cars IMO.
