Default I've just bought a MY98 Sti & I have a few questions..

Hi People.

I'm new and I have just bought an MY98 Sti and I have a couple of quick questions for you knowledgeable scooby owners out there..

My first question is regarding the up pipe cat - are these never fitted to MY98 JDM cars? as the previous owner seemed to think that the bottom cat had been removed but the top cat was still fitted - however I am being advised that JDM cars do not have cats fitted at all?

Also I thought that all STi's had the Intercooler water spray fitted, but mine does not, I know mine is an STi because I have checked the chassis number but I was surprised to discover that the water spray wasn't fitted.. Is it nothing more than a gimmick anyway? Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Lastly I called Subaru to enquire about basic servicing and they told me they wouldn't touch JDM cars with a barge pole, which p1ssed me off somewhat, are these guys stupid? Is my money not good enough for them? I presume that everybody with a import gets the same unsatisfactory treatment?

1) JDM or import impreza's only have only have one cat in the downpipe. Then there is a silencer in the mid section. He may have meant this has been removed. UK cars had a cat in both the downpipe and the mid section.
You will need the downpipe cat to be in place for your car to pass the mot.
All cars from 1994 have to have a catalytic converter.

2)Only the sti type r and ra came with intercooler water spray. Not a big loss if you don't have it.

3)A lot of dealers don't want to touch imports due to lack of servicing info on their database (poor excuse I know), but there are many specialists around that charge half as much and do a top job. It's what they do, day in, day out.
