Question

Hi all

Thought i'd drop in here to see if there would be any interest in carbon fibre products for your cars , i have access to early and late model cars for moulding purposes , but before i do it , thought i'd check out the market !

Looking for suggestions folks , what do you want ? bonnets , splitters , spoilers , boot lids , bumpers , trim bits , door cards , engine bay bits ???

Mail me or post up lads , i'll make the gear if the interest is there !

.... I may need to change my puny spoiler on my 92 imported WRX in the near future. It will all depend on the prices though as I'm a student and a dad.

Am interested in whatever will give the greatest weight reduction - I'm guessing that panels are a problem so what is the best parts to replace?

I quite fancy a carbon bonnet and boot lid, two of the guys on iwoc are making moulds from a proper prodrive rally bonnet (complete with massive air intakes!) for both GC8 and 01 cars.

Prices quoted were about $800 and $100 to ship.

Tho one bit that surprised me was the weight saving over an STI ally bonnet was very negligible.

There is a firm in Japan called wintersports who do carbon body panels for scoob and they quote 5kg for the bonnet and 3kg for the bootlid! Now thats light.

I'd be very interested in your project, would also like to know how you intend these bonnets to close (the above two ive quoted both use rally style clips on top of the bonnet and not the original bonnet catch) and also what your intentions are re the scoop and the vents.
The us guys have left holes and you have to fit OE items in there (or rally items if your going for bigger vents) and the wintersports one according to the blurb i could decipher is single piece with scoop and vents already in (just needing meshing) tho i havent seen any pics of this one.

Look forward to hearing from you

On a seperate note it would be quite nice to see induction kit intakes pipes get replaced with carbon versions

Just a thought re Daz's post,
I don't think he was advertising as such, as he currently has no products to sell, he's trying to see if there is a market for actually making products to sell, im sure if he received enough replies that it would become a worthwhile proposition he'd get a banner ad

KATANA- I am sure if all goes ahead you would find i am reasonable

PT- Thanx for the interest , as regarding the bonnets , i could make and supply them in a number of ways I.E just a skin with integral scoop and holes for vents , clip fitment, or a full bonnet with internals to bolt up to (no need for clips), i would make the vents seperately too in carbon and i would also do a seperate scoop just as an option ! Obviously each type would carry a different weight , i wouldn't know what it is untill moulding , but it would be competitive ! Same thing goes for the boot RE fitment etc.

GAZZA- Thanx for the interest , watch this space

anyone else , what you looking for lads , what about interior bits , i also have access to proper sump, diff, tank guards etc

Daz,

I would be particularly interested in interior parts. A proper carbon dash kit would be good. Doorcards, centre console etc...

Mind you, as long as the price is right

Cheers

I'd estimate a scoob bonnet from around 300 depending on what you wanted !, but that is an estimate m8 ! but it shouldn't be far out

Seeing as you seem to have got a fair amount of business from here, you should be able to afford a banner ad now?

Hi

You are basically using this forum (which is for general discussion, not commercial discussion) to perform market research (which would normally cost a fortune) and generate potential customers.

The rest of our advertisers pay for this which is the very thing that makes this site possible for all to use for free.

Please let me know if you would like to advertise, or perform any commercial activity on these forums. Until then, please do not post any more commercial messages.
