Default sti low on power

Problem: 05sti ppp, producing no more than 270 bhp, maybe not even, as this is my approximation. Had some runs agains a mates car(he has 200bhp fwd car) and it was an even match could not get closer to him if following, could not pull away. From 0 if I really launched it, then I gained a bit.

Funny thing is I always felt the car lacks some power, but is the first time I had a chance to test it agains smth. The car feels good, no odd noises or hesitation or anything, however it feels like is really pulling above 4k rpm, but I think it is normal. I changed gears between 6.5-7.0k rpm, and was not closing on the 200 bhp car. I know smth is wrong but what can it be, any ideas ?

you think a remap could solve my probem ? Or should I go back to dealer and tell them to sort it out(if I can convince them)

Well, I only have about 6 month more, so it doesn't matter anymore. I already ordered an sti panel filter, as it seems to be good start

have you had it on a rolling road? do you know for def that its down on power, could there be a mechanical/sensor issue thats causing it to hold back?

persoanly i'd get it checked out before you start modding

There is no rr where I live so no. But is down on power for sure. I always felt that is not faster than my old bug wrx ppp, now now for sure, so smth is wrong. I'm thinking that before modding I will go to dealer, but I'm afraid they will be reluctant to even look at it or will just say is ok.... So then I'll just remap it. These are my thoughts right now anyway

Does it matter? I purposefully ommited the name, as I don't want to turn this thread into a sti versus xxx.
The other car is 200bhp and about 100 kg less than my sti. But I'm afraid my sti is not 100 more on bhp as it should be, but way less.

i didnt expect a sti versus xx thread as most front wheel drive cars are alot lighter than the scoob, so you have to consider power to weight ratios.

It is just an approximation, based on bhp/t, transmission losses(15%on fwd and 24%on sti) and comparing it to the other car. The 2 cars accelerate almost 100% the same so hence the approximation.

but you have not said what the bhp/tonne is of the other car against yours, just that you cant accelerate past him.

and you are guessing at figures

afraid its never as simple as that. you get used to a certain power level, so bet you'll have got used to it.

def think you need to get it looked at before make any decisison

Yes, you might be right, but this is really the first time I'm test driving against a friend's car, and we both tried each other's car. And btw: when I drove his, he actually coudn't keep up....

Well, if you want the most out of it you have to keep it between 4 - 6.5 k. Is this wrong ?

sounds about right then mate, best bet, get it to a tuner like Scooby Clinic | The UK's Largest Independent Subaru Specialists | 01246 590 807 - Chesterfield S42 6QX, get em to dyno it and make sure all is well, then figure out how much you can afford to spend on toys

or how much you can spend on toys before you go lol

yep, i think you'll find your used to it rather than it being down on power. you just need to decide how much you wanna spend doing it up lol

hmm, this is interesting. However, I belive you got at least 200kg less and the bhp diff is 95, where in my case the weight diff is only 100kg and power should be 100bhp. Didn't go over 70-80 as it was on normal b roads, but higher likely I would have had the edge, but I expected that when I fully boot it is 3rd, 4th gear, that I get slowly closer, and I didn't.

no need to take a scoob into the red, quick change is the name of the game if you want to sprint off, change at 5k and you'll be ahead in leaps and bounds, dependant to the turbo unit your running, will be running out of puff higher up the rev range,to keep in the game, keep out of the RED.....as for mods,de-cat it,breath the engine,re-map,happy days....no more prodblems with FWD cars.....

Seriously though OP, good advice. Get it on a rolling road and see what is going on with it before you go changing anything... and did see somewhere about redlining a scoob .... just quickly on the live feed.... This is true.... I find that if I take it to about 3000 revs in first then into second.. whoosh.... they dont need redlining
