As there isn't a decibel limit on the MOT test I've no idea how they can enforce that!
What's noisy? Aircraft taking off, Road drill, Trains, Lawnmowers, Yappy dogs?
Bloody stupid death or glory Police with lights flashing and horns going?
How about mufflers for their damn great big flat feet?

If the Mods were done before an MOT would the police have a case?

It'd be interesting to know what vehicles they were; as I know Shefford quite well and there are some utter-sheds around there

Knowing that a good proportion of police wouldn't know a non-standard exhaust on many performance cars if you shoved their arm down it; I've got a feeling we don't have much to worry about; I would guess this is more aimed at those in 1.2 Corsa's with £30 back boxes off Ebay.

MOT only proves that the car was roadworthy at the time of the MOT; not any time after it

Was of interest to me as I was pulled over a while back in my 1959 hot-rodded V8 Chevy truck with just one small silencer for each bank and was told "this vehicle is too loud and if vosa were available this vehicle could be prohibited". I found his statement quite interesting as I wondered what their yardstick would be..?!

I suppose they'll be looking for Saxo's & Corsa's with drainpipe specials for exhausts, but I wonder if any of our cars may be caught up in the big sweep up..? I suspect so with the rep that some scoobs have....

Hi Voodoo .. My '57 350 small block Chevy would fail the same way! but what the hell..
The point is, as far as I know there is no decibel limit, and no means of measuring it for Plod. A bit subjective isn't it? I mean, 105 db at 1 pm isn't the same as 105 db at 1 am is it?

Didn't Scottish Police start handing out fine to those drivers who had the Prodrive Performance Packs fitted to their STI's?

agreed, aslo a good reason to check the drivers have licence, ins, mot, tax and the cars are generally roadworthy.

A box standard ferrari Enzo or Lambo gallardo is just as loud as my scoob which has a full straight through 3inch system, i dont see the police pulling over ferrari or lambo owners for excessive noise...Take a E46 M3 past 6k revs even thats louder than most aftermarket cat back systems on scoobies....

*** all better to do in my opinion.

about time the plod started to go after murderers, rapists, muggers, drug dealers etc, instead of this they go for the easy target of the motorist to swell their coffers, rather than doing some proper police work.

You keep on with your excellent work against these noisy Scooby people.

That way you'll not have time to be too intersted in what I'm up to.

Yours, Johhny the Burglar,Drug Dealer, Violent Person etc etc.

Mind how you go.

Was gonna say the same thing. I own a big vtwin bike and my dad owns a Harley both with loud pipes and in all honesty they are life savers cause everyone around is aware that you are there. Same with my Scoob not the loudest exhaust around but stops people pulling out on me. People being aware that you are there cannot be a bad thing in my opinion. Still should pull all the dodgy Corsas and Saxo though.

Agreed.

The guys in uniform are just doing their jobs and dealing with what they're tasked to do. Policy and direction are made by those far further up the tree. Most of the BiB I've had encounters with have generally been fair and resonable.

IIRC Bedfordshire police are already dishing out seizures and ASBO's in residential areas for noisy exhausts, over reving, loud bass in cars etc.
If there's blame there's a tax claim !

Is this for real? Gordon's back benchers have come up with another way to fleece joe public!!

It makes me sick the way the UK is going these days. Alan MaC 's comment is so right (yet the way you wrote it funny as hell). Maybe they should try and make people who rape, murder etc pay more on tax robbing them of there rights rather than the people who are helping put money back into the UK through pay TAX on Fuel,TAX on ours cars (less face it its not cheap),TAX in import duty for the parts etc........

If this is the case. What Db is my team ice system from RCM? I've had the fuzz right up my back side on a number of times recently with the odd flame popping out and they haven't pulled me over. I just get the odd look etc.

Muppets!!

I'm glad I don't live in that **** hole of a country anymore. Scum bags rule and the police pick on the easy targets (the motorist). What a toilet!!!

Doesn't bode well for this country.. what's next? Where do they draw the line?

Will we be getting collared for have a car that has a Colin McRae sticker on or fined for having low profile tyres?

Seems like the goverment just wants to put everyone into a small box labelled 'drones' and ensure we pay our taxes, drive a 1.0 tin box that is the same as everyone else and regularly praise 'The Leader'.

We are not far off now

While i would not be happy if it were me, lots of scooby owners do fit ****en EXTREMELY loud and stupid exhausts at times.

i fitted a revolution one, which was reported to be one of the quietest at the time, but i`m still aware its noisy at low rpms

anybody with one of them stupid blitz nur-spec things is just a moron and there really is no need for it IMO, i cant understand why anybody would want an exhaust that loud

totally agree, there is loud and there is LOUD. Really noisy systems and chavs driving round and round estates keeping kids up are to blame. After numerous complaints the Police are actually doing something and spoiling it for everyone because they don't care how anti-social they are being.

I agree too. Quite a few scooby owners are just asking for unwanted attention, it doesn't surprise me at all that people complain.

Given how apathetic the car enthusiast community seems to be when it comes to campaigning on issues that affect them, actively seeking the attention of the car-hating busybodies is just plain stupid IMHO.

I deliberately put a standard exhaust back on my STI v2 when I bought it, and it's still the loudest car in my office car park.
