Default MOT Question

This is reference one of my sisters cars. Renault Clio. Its just failed its MOT at a main dealer, who are saying it needs 400 quids worth of work to pass! The last MOT certificate is valid until 7th March.

They are now insisting that the car is now illegal to drive at all. Is this the case? I thought you had 7-14 days to repair a car that has failed an MOT? Am I wrong?

Cheers

It is always illegal to drive a car that has MOT failable problems. If you are stopped with a tyre under 1.6mm for instance you could not say 'my MOT hasn't expired so it's not illegal yet' and the same applies to any other MOT failable item.

The exception may be driving it to another repair garage to have the faults rectified.

hope that helps
