i still love them but i wouldnt go back to one as its gone down the boy racer route with a poor image.
towards the end of my classic ownership I shopped waving to classic drivers as most of them round here are boy racers .
where it used to be hardcore scooby lovers that did not wear baseball caps and respected other road users.

I think the 2 door classics are lovely to look at the 4 door are as common as most family cars now but they do all sound so much better. Also they are a lot cheaper on tax than the new subarus

i love em , just bought my second classic and makes me smile everyday
do see alot of young hooleys driving them around but they are all ****ters with stupid graphix(kenwood alpine)all down the side that they have bought for 2 grand and are paying 4 gazillion pound insurance. i like to think the majority of classics are still driven by respecful people and enthusiasts like ourselves and not young chavs going look at my neon washer jets and **** graphics!

TC, how can 4 door classic Imprezas be more common now than 8 years ago when they stopped making them? Or do you mean look like a common 4 door saloon? It's been argued each new design by Subaru since the classic is getting more like a common car.
Classic 4 door owner here, non chav 35 y.o. No better Impreza out there VFM vis a vis performance/looks. Very pratical too.
IMH the design was so good they should re-relealease it as the new shape Impreza with a better engine

I love my classic & do not intend on changing it regardless......
If I own till I can't drive anymore then that'll be cool, with the mileage it does year on year it will still be a minter when I'm in my 70's
Plus it get's better year after year...
Classic's Rock & have true character

These cars are not specially reserved for the descerning rally enthusiast, they are publically available.

My Scoob reminds me of my MK1 though much quicker, however it too handled like it was on rails.....
above is just one of the examples of build during my ownership
How fond are the memories of hurtling down a lane at night with all 6 relay controlled lights beaming into the darkness, Cibie headlamps, super oscars & oscars

lol, i still remember hurtling down some lanes when my light fuse blew and plunged me into darkness.
bit of bent wire and i was off again in 5 mins !!! lol
also got fond memories of applying p38 to the rear arches every few months!! and
getting the top plates regularly welded. (in the end, they were heavier than the car)
wish i had some photos

i bet people of the older generation used to think the same of us, in out mk1 escort's with cibie lights, graphic equalisers, wide wheels and level42 blasting out the pioneer speakers. its all relative.

Classic for me, When someone says subaru or impreza i just get the picture of a classic straight into my head . That doesnt mean i dont like the newer models but i just think the classic has the edge for me anyway. I wouldnt say no to a hawkeye spec C though but there a bit out of my pricerange for now at least.

I am totally obsessed by my classic, love it so much it sometimes hurts my eyes to look at it!
I would love a Hawkeye - but would have to keep the classic as well, I couldnt part with it!

I've had my classic for just over 10 years now and just love, even if I could afford a new one I would keep my current one too, 10 years faithful service and still going strong

I had one of the latter, in yellow, but would have given my soul for either of the former.
And then there was the RS1800
And the RS200Never got either of those.........
Love the "rally reversing lamp". Did you ever have any Cibie "Biode" headlamps, with the two reflectors in a 7" round headlamp, and two H1 bulbs? Best headlamps I've EVER had. Oscars, Super Oscars, and some Lucas Flarepath lights, not to mention the old Lucas LR700 "Flamethrower" spotlight

I have had my classic MY00 for over 3 years now and still love it to bits. Been modding it during that time and it is now pretty much how I want it. I do like the new-age cars but wouldn't trade my classic in for one.
I live near Brighton and must admit that I see more new-age cars than I do classics, over the last few years in the town that I live in various older classics have come and then gone within a fairly short space of time. I guess that people buy them use them for a while then sell them when they realise how expensive they are to run if you look after them properly.
As for mk1 Escorts, I had an RS2000 (pic below) and Mexico back in the day, best RWD cars I ever owned especially the RS2000.
