Default Engine Start Button

Before I get flamed hear me out, I was thinking of putting a start button:

Start Button Subaru Impreza WRX STi Forester Legacy XT on eBay, also Engine Tuning Parts, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 02-Feb-08 23:09:28 GMT)

where the cig lighter is now the above seems to fit. I thought it would make for a good security device as it would be hidden from view by the little flap thingy that also hides the ash tray. I was reading people disconnect battery terminals or remove leads but for a tenner and something seemingly simple this would do, it would at least slow them down while I'm running down my stairs!!

anyone done similar or is this idea just a load of toss??

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea but i'm sure you'll soon get fed up of using it. Stick to the keys mate , work well and last a long time

I fitted one in my Mk1 MX5 just before xmas...

It is a direct replacement for the cig lighter, but I mounted it on the centre console by the gear stick.

Good set of instructions to follow for numpties like me too!

20 mins taking the console apart and running the cables and job done...

Nice little toy and something a bit different. Well worth a tenner!

I had a Lexus is220 last car but 1 and that had a starter button ... dunno why but made the car so much more sporty ..... for the 2 seconds it was starting .. then it was as dull as a special omnibus version of songs of praise !!

Alright mate, I had one fitted to my Rover 220 Turbo they are a great gimmic, let me know how easy it is to fit this one as the one I had was really hard and had to be fitted by someone in the know.

Cheer mate.

got one on another car, but it's not labelled. very discreet

seen plenty of other cars with bright red start buttons though - funny thing is, people generally assume they won't work and they're just there for show

Never really looked in these, I take it you still have the turn to key to the ignition on position before pressing the button any way?

Yep thats right, rather than making that final twist you just press the button instead. My thoughts are it might outfox the theives for a few more minutes.

What happens if it gets pushed while you are driving. Could be expensive unless there's a lockout of some sort?

Why not just purchase other security devices?
