I put a K&N 57i on my MR2 last weekend. It has an intake pipe staright onto the throttle body, then the cone filter at the end.
The stuff it replaced are:
- huge resonator box (about 2ft by 1ft by 1ft)
- resonator box half the size of that
- a third resonator box much smaller
- main filter box and piping.
The sound is superb, but the power has dropped significantly. In 1st and 2nd gear it is nice, but above that it seems to hesitate at 5,000rpm, change induction noise for a second, then at 5,500 it continues with the power and noise.
Obviously this is annoying so I am going to put the stock stuff back on. It just bugs me that you replace miles of pipes and boxes with a simple cone filter and the power goes down Surely these things are tested.
So does anyone know why it could have done this? Rumour has it the resonator boxes create low pressure air which provides low down torque.

Have you got a good supply of cold air towards the filter and where is the filter situated? Never had any problems with removing resonators but if so then why not just put them all back on and re-position filter. Although this would be strange.

I'm dissappointed in you mate!
I could of supplied you a 57i kit at a hugely reduced price for all your help!
I'll speak to K&N next week and see if they can suggest something.
If you are still having trouble I'll get you a brilliant price on the Blitz SUS kits I sell on my site.
Have a looky here:

Jamie, where was your website when I needed it 3 months ago for my SVA test. I could've saved myself a lot of hassle ages ago instead of flying from place to place for my parts. I'll be ordering some parts from you in February when my bank and credit card balance goes back into the green.
p.s. Thats also assuming my car is not written of on Monday, fingers crossed.

Jamie - I only paid £20 for it plus postage from the Jolly Green Monster on Scoobynet, so no problems with the money side of things. Just annoyed that something that sounds so wicked is going to have to go
May take you up on the Blitz stuff.
