remap question?

remap question?
I have a wrx 2005 ppp 265bhp. I have added a typhoon cold air induction kit and a bailey dump valve. Im thinking of getting a new down pipe but do i need a remap after these mods?

IIRC You should get the car remapped right away with a CAIK mate; your maf will need rescaling to take account of this. You're in danger of an engine failure through lean running if you don't.

To be fair, when you view these forums it is incumbent on you to make a judgement on the authority of the person dispensing advice, before blindly folllowing it. You should really always consult a professional.
To reiterate: the original poster MUST get his car remapped before using any boost; there is a real engine safety issue here. Some mappers that I've spoken to will often advise that you let them fit the CAIK on the day of mapping.

I put a Viper induction kit on mine when I 1st got it. After speaking to a mapper, I soon took it off as the MAF might not be reading the increased air flow correctly and run lean.
His exact words were "I'll take a look at it for free for you 'cos I've got enough engine rebuilds to do at the moment without having another one" - I just took it off. Wasn't worth it.
Saying that if I were to get a decat downpipe etc and a remap I'd get another and bolt it on at the same time so it could be mapped properly

tbh i would have said no up untill about 2 months ago, a mate is still driving round in his, decatted (including up pipe) and cold air feed and its been fine.
although its prob best to get it RR after to check (which i believe his was) but its not running lean.

since i wanted to check i did done a bit more digging.
when he had it done he got differening reports but didn't have the up pipe done and a celfix done, and then a power run to check. they wouldn't do it without the power run cos it may affect the mixture, so tbh in short i think your prob best doing so.
although should also be noted he had it mapped very soon after (within 2 weeks it think) , which included and up pipe change and also he didn't drive it much inbetween.

as has been said the induction can effect maf voltages which effects the load the ecu sees and therefore how much fuel it injects and how much ignition advance it uses,, both can cause damage... the downpipe can cause overboost issues..
luckily the newage ecu will fuel cut if it overboosts and will pull timing and therefore lose power is it detects detonation,, best to remap

The point of it all is to take advantage of any induction or exhaust modifications by exploiting the tuning potential, as well as ensuring you haven't in fact co*ked it up instead of improving it!
The range of results from fitting various "induction improvements" is truly astounding.
The Ecutek website has an excellent breakdown on the effects of induction kits in particular and is quite an education.

The Prodrive Sports Cat is good and is easily as good as my H&S 100 cell Sports Cat I would say. On new age cars when you start removing cats its best practice to get your map refreshed to the changes in flow.
