Question Prodrive quick shift..?

I have a chance of buying one at the right price () for my 05 wrx.

Are they any good, can someone who's had one fitted comment as to whether it's worth it or not..?

Finally, is the PD one any better than the cusco/perrin (short shaft) type..?

Are there any GB270's left in the dealers, might have to try one out as above is fitted as standard..

I had one on my 03 wagon. Combined with a Gp N gearbox mount, it made the shift short and solid.
The PD version is a total gearbox shift unit with stablizer bar and is warranty friendly. Not too hard to fit DIY either.

Cheers Butty,

did you fit the full PD version or just the B&D type and did it make change notchy in any way..?

I've seen a new, full PD type (actually branded STI) for just over £100 from Japan..

It was the full PD version as shownn on the link. I didn't notice any notchiness at all.

I've also got the Prodrive quickshift. I like it, although I felt it didn't make a huge difference to the length of throw.
Picked mine up cheap on here, so quite happy. At the right price I would say go for it.
I didn't attempt to fit it myself.

I fitted & took it off myself. I had a look underneath and decided straight away to take the centre section off.
The hardest part are the nuts & bolts for the link and stabiliser bar.

Where did you get yours from Beastie and what price did you pay?

May get one if they are worth it for MY07 STi.

Cheers

How do they work exactly - ie how does it resuce the throw of the gearchange ?

I had my Prodrive Quickshift fitted by AF Noble (Subaru Dealer) in Penicuik, Edinburgh and was part of packages fitted on my MY06 STi prices as below:

Performance pack £1700.00

Spring kit £520.25

Wheels & Tyres £1964.65

Quickshift £429.20

All prices are including Vat, Parts & Labour

If you would like to purchase all items as one package, we would do this for £4064.79, saving £549.31

I am looking at getting one of these fitted but am now a bit concerned by motos' comment that it didn't greatly reduce the throw ...are there better kits out there? The PD is quite alot of cash for what doesn't sound like a huge improvment in performance, or does it improve other aspect of the gear change other than throw length?

i have the Subaru quick shift on my car. Not sure what you mean by the Prodrive one? But anyway, it does make a difference to the throw but obviously the gearbox is not a quickshift one and so realistically it does not alter the change speed, but it does feel better.
I would have one again.

I'm not convined for the money... magicreg - do you find the standard STi one lacking?

I have to admit, I came to my 06 STi from a 350z and the throw on that was a lot shorter. I was going to change the STi for a while for this reason, but am used to it now and can change quickly enough tbh. I occassionally have problems finding third when giving it some but that may very well be down to driver skill or lack thereof

Undecided personally

Mikkel, I cured the STi "3rd gear miss" by fitting a Gp N g/box mount, not a quickshift.
I think the 6 spd box sways around when pushing on and can upset the shift.

Not really, just if it was a great improvement I would have invested.

For the difference the Prodrive kit makes opposed to the cost then I csn't see me buying one, was/still am half tempted at the B&M kit from Revolution.
