Default ECU and chip questions

I have a import 94sti v1 of which i already have a stainless steel exhaust and induction kit fitted i am now thinking of modding a bit more new headers are being sourced and either a chip or a map on my ecu BUT i'm in the understanding that early ecu's can't or are very difficult to re-map so i was thinking of a chip something like the polar performance chip my question is i have seen different ecu's for sale and i was wondering if i could change my ecu for maybe a re-mapable unit or can this not be done any comments welcome
cheers
john

Red face

got '93 v1 meself,(auto) polar performance chip fitted, works very well and very reasonable price my car exhaust (1st cat back) induction kit now performs very very well, i would've if i could of afforded it gone for apexi but unless your planning turbo upgrades etc may as well have a chip (make it a good 'un, like polar performance).standard early ecu not mappable.
hope this helps phil.

You are spoilt for choice if you choose to do it properly, you can replace the ECU with an aftermarket product such as the Apexi or Simtek or retain it and have it mapped with using ESL's software suite
