As title, read it yesterday in Japanese Performance. If it's true then many modders won't be doing a lot of Subaru business (depending on cost, etc).

as most aftermarket tuners will not offer warranty, therefore to ensure that the PPP has 400bhp & 3 year warranty i would think that something will need to be done internally or the warranty costs will be high.
my 04sti is running 420 but i dont have a warranty.

This is for the 'new' sti which is not out yet. So maybe it's internals are better as standard. As the standard power is going to be at what the 02 - 05 sti ppp were at.

If Prodrive release a 400bhp STI, they will have to offer a warranty, meaning that the engine will presumably still offer a good safety margin. If that's the case, I'm sure that the tuners will be able to offer significant power upgrades over and above 400bhp albeit without an extended warranty.
it also said it wasnt just an "exhaust and remap"......
With the prices of the new STI at £24995 (although you'll be paying for the recaro bucket seats so add another £1k on) and adding the PPP i would guess that the combined price would hit the price of the "old car" to give them a marketing headstart... "buy our ****e car with 400bhp for the price you paid for the old standard one"...
Think the PPP needs to come with a Prodrive emblemed bag to stick on your head to hide the shame of buying such an ugly car.....

Lol, 400bhp my @rse, even if it were quoted at that, PD 400 equates to about 360bhp according to www.onlineconversiom.com..

That Harman 08 STi thread is a good read:

But if they're quoting 400, that means independent tuners will be thereabouts or more.

Having had a look at more pictures, the tuneability to 400bhp+, the cost, the fact that the EVo X (according to most mags and tuners) has lost it's edge to the evo 9 and before. I think the Subaru STI is not that bad. I think thats the only model that can just about make it thru the ugly filter tho....
Its going to be cheaper than the older model at £24,999 so with PPP I don't suppose it'll be much different to the old STi with no PPP. Subaru said they are only bringing in 1000 STi's a year.

lol, for the last 10+ years of PPP they've upped hp/torque by about 40, on quite a few variants of engine. now all of a sudden their next car is a total dog that's getting slated so they throw in a 400bhp swerveball
if Prodrive continue to make a generic map for all packages if the final figure is over 350 i'll eat my subaru jacket

This could be the get out of jail card on this new car. It's already eating the evos on the track. Make a superb power package for the rawer model and keep the enthusiasts, regardless of lOOks.
I'll bet £1 Mike from Prodrive isn't going to pipe in on this thread. It's all top secret.
I hope it's true though.
Thats because they know they ain't going to sell.
I'll help Hoskib eat his jacket if they sell 1000 of them a year.
Subarus problems:-
Car is a sh*te design
Evo X
If the Focus RS is 4WD, that will be the final nail in Subaru's coffin.
PS. I seriously doubt it'll be 400BHP. More like 40BHP over standard

Now if the focus goes 4WD, that would be tough.
I'd take the new STi over the new Evo X already. I didn't think so initially, but the STi has certainly grown on me and seeing it eat the evo's on the track was another vote for it.
I hear what you're saying and if it is 40bhp, then it will be at very best 40bhp, so more likely 20bhp.
I think the best way for them is to make the 400bhp happen.

Want side portion of subaru caps with that?

would be nice if it's true. it's not though

remember that not many (if any) WR1's didn't put down a headline grabbing BHP figure, if this package is meant to save the impreza, Prodrive had better make sure any RR in the country can back up their claims.
funnily enough i've got a cap if it's needed

or quote that the well lane rollers must be used.
I remember readin something about ford saying 220bhp was the best they could put through the FWD system, otherwise it would torque steer off the road.
Now they're going for 280. Like all, i hope it's 4WD, otherwise it will be a pain on our roads. Nerr, change pain for death trap.
Subaru might have a chance here, if:
- PD bring out a decent PPP, like the 400
- The new Focus is FWD
- The Evo X remains at a ridiculous price (£38k) with limited tuning potential.
Just when subaru was thinking rock bottom. The new STi @ £25k (possibly cheaper in EU) and the 400PPP for £4k.
