Default Subaru Key Coding

Spent ages looking on here for the answer, but keep finding stuff relating to the alarm, not the actual key..

I need to make up a spare set of keys, I have a spare remote, and I know how to add that to my alarm.. However, I also need a key, and as it has a transponder inside, it will need coding. Can this be done yourself, or will I have to go to Subaru to get ripped off ?

Thanks.

Self coding NOT recommended. Im sure someone will come along and explain who and where to get help.

Has to be done via the subaru select monitor, ie at the dealer, AFAIK. I had it done a couple of times when I was replacing my ECU ( the transponder chip talks directly to the ecu..). They charged me half an hour labour each time which was reasonable enough I suppose. They will also need the security code of the key, which will be engraved on a little silver tab which was attached to the key, or International Motors should have it on their database.
