Campaign to get UK motorists flashing

For the first time ever, I was warned today by 5 oncoming motorists of a copper hiding around a bend with a radar gun, thanks to a quick flash of their headlights. Let's do as they do on the continent and help each other out on the roads as much as possible to avoid getting caught.
For the record, I was well within the speed limit.
Cheers, CUJ

To an arsey cop....
Improper use of headlights, and a guy was convicted last year of some form of interferance with police matters.
Truth of the matter is, its a nice thing to do, but so many people flashing for various reasons these days, its hard to know what to do or how to react.

Thats right, other road users flash their light for the tinniest of things it is hard to know what for.
Flashing your light to say 'thank-you' when someone has waited for you and thinks like that. I saw a copper do that to me once, I thought if they can do it.....

There's always one holier than thou smart **** that says he never speeds on these types of threads.
Why not just shut up and not post at all if you have nothing constructive to say.
Personally I do this all the time to warn motorists if I've driven passed either the camera van or worse mr plod weilding a radar/laser gun.

Unfortunately, going past the speed camera van - speeding was the wrong time to actually be speeding
Take it easy Daz - it's Christmas
I did actually mean to add a winky to my first post

I thought the standard was meant to be three flashes for police?
Anyway, it is illegal, as if you are warning another member of the public about police enforcement action, so that they can escape detection...blah..blah..etc etc.
Practically lots of people do it, and if you have passed said trap, it is hard for the plod to see you flashing your lights.

yea i remember it, cant remember all the inns and outs TBH, i do seem to remember the bloke being charged though
i find it a bit ironic they used the term perverting the course of justice though as all there doing is victomising motorists and stealing from us every chance they get, ohh the irony of it

Cheers guys, it's creating a lot of debate on an number of forums where I've posted it. Consensus would seem to be that a lot of you are already doing it so let's keep it up. I drive in France regularly and people flash you all the time over there and I've never know anyone be convicted for it. TBH, do you really think the police will stop 5 cars altogether if they've flashed their lights to warn of a speed trap, I'm not so sure...
PS - haven't introduced myself properly yet, is there a place to do this and post up some pics of the P1?

I find it quite entertaining when car after car flash me when I am doing the limit.........concentrate on your driving and stop blinding me with your misguided intentions.

I've been doing this for forty years - three quick flashes and plod's about.
And, yes, it is illegal "but officer didn't you see that big dog in the road just now? I didn't want anyone to run it over!"

People used to always flash when it was relatively rare, when plod just had the old radar guns.
Sadly nowadays people just see it as the norm and hardly ever flash around my way.I do appreciate when someone does though.

Will the law is a funny old thing, but when a car drives down the road and flashes 9 seperate cars, including an unmarked car, and makes any sort of gesture, and there is no danger ahead.... its improper use of lights, and in their opinion interferring with a police matter.

Honestly, my own take is sod the oncoming drivers!
If they don't have the observation skills to spot the camera with all it's dayglow entourage and on top of that, they lack the ability to drive within the speed limit, I want them flippin caught!!
Warning Flashes have been going on for years (20 or more) accompanied by thumbs down as the traditional method. I remember being about 7 and asking my dad why people wanted other people to get away with being naughty. 25 years on and I am still non the wiser
I also recall once in Southport seeing an oncoming fiesta flash me and the unmarked police car behind me to warn us of a forthcoming safety camera on Scarisbrick Road. Said unmarked car did a u-turn and nicked him, so there must be some arrestable element to it all - unless it was a warning
