want to get my sideskirts painted , but want to know how well it takes? a subaru dealer said that if it gets a stone chip, then the paint peels off in little strips. is this true? i think scoobysport offer a paint service, has anyone had this done? and what were the results?
thanks

Mattski,

All they do is sand them down, prime, re-sand and prime again......thats all for the "Expensive finish"!

Thumbs up

I've had mine done for over a year. Theres a couple of small stone chips that have been there for about 8 months. As for the paint peeling in little strips....If its done properly I'd say thats cr@p.
So go for it....it transforms the car in my opinion.

PS I did it myself for about $50 Aussie pesos.

Got mine done by my mate's dad in his spray shop, cost all in £100 and look superb. Any garage charging over £150 are tw@ts.

Cool

I had mine done when I 1st bought my WRX. My m8 did them, so all I paid for was the materials!!!

No probs, for the time I had the car! Just sand the skirts down, prime with plastic primer and off u go! I did the side skirts, rear corners and got hold of a high level boot spoiler & did that!!!! All in all, it cost me about £60.00 (but that did include 2 pac paint, primer, panel wipes and thinners).

I have recently had a new spoiler fitted to my car and asked about the side skirts/rear skirts. They said it would be about £300. To do it 'properly' they would take them off. Apparently there is two finishes they can do, one is to simply prepare and spray them, which would result in a somewhat textured effect.

The other (more expensive) finish results in a smooth, body-panel like finish which apparently looks superb!

I removed them Myself, had them painted and refit them (myself). £80 all in.Painted about a year ago,no flakes or paint pealing even after weekly power washing!
Make sure that the skirts are properly prep`ed.i.e Lightly sanded using `scotchbrite` and panel wipe. This is to remove any dirt etc and especially Silicone such as Back to black.

Cool

I had mine done prior to delivery from Holland via Eurekar. They did a great job. It cost £150 which seemed good value then. It seems better value now
Seriously though I couldn't fault them I really think they set the car off so well.

Wink

I bought all the paint myself - plastic primer/filler to get rid of the textured effect, paint, lacquer ,hardener etc all for less than £50. Bung my mate in his paint shop a few quid and it'll be done - as Manny said - anyone asking over £150 is 'being greedy'

Mr Cookie, why dont you use the Cheam Motors bodyshop, speak to Jim or Andrew on 020-8394-2263/2 respectively

It will cost you a lot less than 597 notes and the work will be excellent

We offer a painting service for side skirts, etc. Cost is £100 for the prep and spray, or £120 for the smoothed prep. Painting is done at our local dealership alongside the spoilers we get painted. All prices include VAT.
