Default Gearbox oil

Just a few questions, i want to change the gearbox oil in my2000 classic

what grade oil does it need
how much oil does it hold
is there a drain plug on the box
and do i then refill through the dipstick hole

Probably sounds like basic stuff to most but first time ive had to change the gearbox oil so any help would be great.

hi fella. just recently (last week) changed my oil in my my99 uk turbo

castrol syntrax 75w-90 i used

should need 4 litres if im correct (check owners manual)

think its a 19mm or a 21mm plug at the bottom. think the plug is magnatised as mine had bits of metal stuck to it - a sing of impending rebuild

yep refill through dipstick which i believe is near the intercooler drivers side.

may also be worth re-oiling your rear differential. two plugs. bottom one to drain, top one to fill until it reaches the hole.

if im incorrect im sure someone will corect me, but my mechainic friend used this method.

We over in the States have a "cocktail that we use on the 5 spds with great results. If you want I'll find you the ingredients. Really helps on smoothing out the shifts and doesn't do any damage to the tranny...a few guys have been running it for 4 or 5 years so far.
