A 'Wagon has a Z4 and Im guessing 6S for the Saloon.

6K. The 6S was fitted to the V3.

what process is now used on the 93-98 in respect to mapping the ecu ?

Phase1 93-96 cars can now be mapped by any ESL agent using what's commenly known as ESL Live, expect to pay around £600 all in for this fitted and mapped.

The team at ESL are working on the 97-98 code and should have a release version in the not too distant future, at present your best option is to replace the OE ECU for something like an Apexi PFC etc.
