Default Newbie to scoobys please help

As above im looking at a 1996 facelift sti in white its a red top engine and has a few nice bits on it. I am quite clued up on cars but have never had a scoob, my quetion is what should i be looking for are there any weak points or is it just general things like starting from cold and checking the smoke from exhaust from cold ect ect. Also how robust are scoobys a lot of people say that they have weak engines i dont think this as a lot of the top cars in time attack are scoobys i know they have all the bits on them but they also go through a lot of punishment please let me know your veiws.

Just bear in mind that the car you are looking at is a Japanese import.

You might want to find a UK car, depends what you're after though.

Imports ar normally higher spec but since you most probably won't get reams of paperwork (service history ,repair work etc) so some people think buying on e without service history is a minefield (they may or may not have a point).

These people who say they have weak engines have they owned one?

The ones in Time Attack are normally modified quite heavily.

When looking at one all the points to look at are the same as a 'normal' car (just check the fluid levels, etc)
When staring from cold i don't use boost/go over about 3000rpms for as good few miles.
If the exhaust is smoking when you start it up i wouldn't bother with the car as there are plenty more out there.

Depending on where you are i'm sure there will be a local meet that you can go to to ask people for advice.
