If you've got a pit or ramps and a spare couple of hours its not a difficult job, but if you haven't, and someones offering to do it for £50, then i'd take them up on it. Easiest way i found to do it was take intercooler off, then heatshield on turbo, slacken nuts/bolts holding downpipe to turbo, then go underneath and undo centre box to downpipe, then undo nut off bracket on downpipe and dis attatch it from that, then undo completely the rest of the nuts/bolts holding to turbo then it lands in your hands. Fitting new is reversal of that procedure.
ps, i had a mate helping me support weight of downpipe when free from turbo as i was at top and there was a 5ft drop to bottom of pit otherwise, and my car is a 98 classic.....it may differ slightly on other models.

I back up Coddy's explination.

As long as you have decent space under the car then its quite a simple job to do.

The nuts securing the dp to the turbo can be very hard to undo. It might be worth soaking them in wd40 for 24 hrs before.

Is that £50 ! ! ! Cost me double that !!!

As they charge you to put the new one on too....

P.S. Will be worse the older the car is, easy on a new one...

i did mine on my bugeye 2 weeks ago, axle stands and one jack

intercooler off first then the heat shields this is were all the time goes after that its plain sailing bud. but i missed a bracket holding the downpipe to the engine and i was fighting for about 30 mins!

it took me 4 hours altogether ( alone ) but i tried to do it the easy way, as posted by others take intercooler off and make some room

good luck bud

p.s as per Nick, the turbo bolts was very tight and some of them was hard to get too. but dont let that put you off. i love doing my own modding!

£50 quid is a bargain- you'll prbably agree once you've tried it yourself, especially if any of the studs shear

i like doing the modding but £60.00 all in is a good price m8. only reason i did mine was because i got my gear from ebay. working on a budgit :-).

as RRH said, stud shear then its a nightmare.... mine was a bugeye m8 and was very tight too... but if you have the cash spare get it fitted m8

i did mine in a garage but was still cold, got lowering springs and whiteline stuff to fit next and its really cold...........
