Default NEW GUY NEEDS HELP !!

Hi,
guys im selling my bmw 328i which is a nice car but it's not a subaru lets be honest.

Now i want your advice would you

A...buy a scooby with around 60k miles 03 plate sti, not sti but with prodrive.
B...buy a scooby with 25k miles 03/04 without the prodrive pack.

For the money im spending (12-13 grand) what would you go for the faster car or the lower mileage and slightly newer car. ?

cheers for the advice guys and girls

tufty

It's all a bit confusing this.

Anyway, buy an STI then when you get used to the power you can get it upgraded easily. Mileage isn't that important when it comes to the mechanics etc, as these are hardy motors.

Slightly confused :-
1. Standard 03 Sti
2. WRX with Prodrive Performance Pack
3. Standard 03/04 WRX

If you can insure it STI, better brakes and suspension, sticky diffs all round, and easy to reach 400 bhp if you've got the money....
Nicer interior too ! (Silly big spoiler on the back !)

Not saying WRX isn't a superb car, but you'll only end up upgrading it if you keep it any length of time.... we all do !

As above, I have a WRX and I sit looking at ebay saying I wish I had waited that little bit longer and get and STI....

Sounds like you got a decent car in the BMW.... Keep it that few weeks longer and you will feel the benifit when your climb into your new STI....

I had a WRX for 4 years and loved it. Traded it in for a STI with PPP this summer. There is a premium on buying a STI with PPP over a standard one so if you can afford it get a PPP'd car because it does transform the car.

Or buy a standard STI and spend the money you have saved over the PPP model on modding it. Test drive the cars and see which one you like, either way I'm sure you'll love the Scoob .

It all depends on what you want it for? If its just for the quickness/power aspect and you don't have family then the STI. If you have family then the WRX is more comfy and also gives better/good performance for fuel/power and with a couple of modest mods you can make it your own. Also WRX running costs are substantially lower.

I agree with this post except the running cost part. The standard STI and WRX have the same servicing cost and servicing intervals (10K). The STI with PPP has to be run on super unleaded and a recommended 5k oil change. The only increase to running costs I've seen over my old WRX is 50 miles less to a tank of petrol and a jump of £100 on insurance. So yes it is higher running costs but not much.

I use mine everyday for work in the community, yes the fuel does cost more than most other cars, but if you are going to consider getting an STi, you shouldn't be worried about the fuel side of it.
Family car, this is the main car in our house and is regularly used as a family car.
Go for the STi, you won't regret it, i have had mine for 2 years and still have it pretty much standard for now, i wouldn't change mine for anything else.
You will love it.
