Question MY07 STi EcuTek remap plus AVCR

Has anyone with a MY07 STi had an EcuTek remap with an AVCR installed. It's just that I am due to see AndyF in a weeks time and I got an e-mail form EcuTek saying that I should be carefull about using the AVCR.

This is what they said;

"The ECU is very sensitive and relies on being able to control the boost in the event of knock or problems.

It is a very powerful ECU and if it knows that it does not have full control of all of things that it should it can cause some strange problems."

To control the boost. The MY07 STi does not have enough room on the ecu for dual maps so if you want a low boost setting this is the only option.

Easy enough to wire in a switch to give you ECU controlled or actuator pressure...

I run ecutek and an AVCR on my MY02 WRX

The advantage is that in-gear boost control is better, the downside is that if the ECU thinks that there is something wrong and tries to lower the boost it can't !!

I thought that the Hawkeye came with a better ECU which has integral "gear judge" anyway obviating the need for an AVCR.

Shaun the only reason I was going for an AVCR was due to being able to run multiple maps but from what everyone is saying maybe it's better to leave it out and just run one high bosst map

I's agree with what's already been said, save the £250 for the AVC-R and let the ecu control the boost.

If you don't want to run full boost don't put your foot to the floor

If fact, if you want two boost setting ask Andy to activate user tuning in EcuTek. You can then have a choice of boost map a or b. You will need Deltadash to do use this, but with the money saved from the avc-r you can buy a copy.

I'm talking cr*p, you can actually switch between maps using full throttle and the rear de-fogger. Best speak to Andy about your options.

Tony unfortunately you can't do this with the MY07 STi as the fly by wire takes up more room on the ecu so no room for another map

LOL... didn't know that. Nevermind.

The US have EasyEcu, so you could have two roms stored and load between them when required (bit of a pain tho). Wounder why we don't get that in the UK?

Just to add..,.....AndyF and Bob Rawle have both mapped my car

My advice would be to have a single map (no avcr) optimised for fuel, IAM etc taking into account all the mods for max safe BHP / Torque

Then use all of the time

simply tune into Radio 2 when wanting a bit of rest LOL#

thanks for the info
BTW IIRC prior to MY07 using the Ecutektoggle doesn't switch to a "2nd Map" with different fueling timing etc. I believe it only changed a few "parrameters" in a data block, things like like min-max Boost!!

The new 08 STi ECU is sposed to be something special and may be able to hold 2 or more Full maps we will await and see

Not quite as basic as that Tony.
Map Switch option on the 2.0 WRX and 2.0 Sti changes between 2 full sets of 3D wastegate control and boost target maps. This places the load in a different map position which will then apply the appropriate timing, fueling, knock control etc. It is possible therefore to have your low boost map set for lower octane than your high boost map for example.
