Sti Remap or EVO?

Sti Remap or EVO?
I had always thought my next car would be an EVO just a change really from my 2 imprezas (1999 UK turbo and std 2003 WRX) and a bit more poke but I recently returned to the Subaru fold with a very nice 2002 UK Sti, good price great condition, and I went for it. Was extremely pleased, particularly with the looks, in the pictures it can look bit nasty, in the flesh I think it looks great and the lovely huggy seats and big brakes are a lot better than I remember my WRX. Anyhow, I guess the usual process has started but for me too early, I love driving it but I’m quite bored of the power now, it just doesn’t seem that quick. I’m now looking at a new exhaust fuel pump and remap which I’m told is a great, price efficient way to get more poke and I’ve read here that it makes a big difference. Can someone who’s had it done please “sell it to me” or give me an idea of what difference you can feel and how great is it? I’m slightly torn between that and just getting something like an fq300/330

my personal opinion, based on the fact im jealous and cant afford one...
evos are crap, have no soul or character and sound like raspy pieces of horses faeces.
meanwhile...
scoobs are slower in STANDARD form, but highly tuneable, have a unique sound, feel, character to them. but i would say that as i can afford my scooby... just
hows that for honesty?

go to tsl motorsport and get their triple333 conversion 1250+vat i think, that will make a huge difference to you. I'm thinking of getting it done although it will cost a little less for me as i only need remap and a pannel filter

Thanks a lot for your replies, much appreciated. Mikkel, I agree to the looks comment (I think!) EVOs do look good, Sti not bad tho, did the remap make a real big difference or did you get the car in that state? I too test drove an evo - MR320 is was nice, grippy, fast but somehow didn't actually feel that quick. azz250478 I'll check that out, all the best with yours hope it goes well and you are pleased. Any more comments or experiences greatly appreciated. Thing is with remap, for me anyway, is obviously you can't know excalty the difference without getting it done...

I bought the car standard mate. The remap made it into the car it should be. The difference is simply amazing and the best modification that can be made on an Impreza. Different car all together, both performance driving and standard driving.

Triple 333, is that 999bhp! sounds mental.
Steer clear of packages if you want anything decent imo. You're starting on the wrong foot if you want a uk impreza to match an evo. Better of with an evo, however the JDM Sti is imo the better car in most MY's to start with.
You can pick a uk car up to a good pace, but involves a bit of knowlege rather than following one of the tuning packages offered. 350bhp on a rolling road won't help, it has to be done right.

Personally I'd go for the second option as you'd be into race fuel territory to get an honest 360bhp from a VF35. Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant turbo, but just won't support those figures on a P15 exhaust housing.

the triple 333 package was rated one of the best packages by evo mag and if you go to tsl's website you'll see its done properly and for about 1500 quid is a bargain compared to prodrives ppp, if packages where no good why would all the top tuning companys offer them

360bhp, and 390lb-ft from a VF35 for 800 quid, nice thought mate. Either your car is tuned to within an inch of it's life or.. well your rolling road is full of ****.

I can't argue the technicalities with you, but I'm sure there are others on here more qualified.
My point remains that although the JDM is undeniabley a better spec than the UK car you can get the UK car to an Evo equalling performance level without spending a fortune.

You have to service the Evo more frequently.
The Subaru sounds better.
You can get 400 BHP out an Evo IX without really trying.
I don't find a lot else to really choose between the late models, the Subaru handling and torque have improved as have the Evo's ride and economy.
Going back to a 2002 UK STI, there is no contest, the Evo is simply a better performer, either standard or with equivalent mods. Far less understeer, less weight, spools the turbo better and makes more top end power, although the Evos before the 8MR do ride a bit firm.
The new STI will have carry over engine and drivetrain mainly, so will be easy to modify straight away. The new Evo is heavier with all new engine and drivetrain of unknown strength, but quicker on a timed route with the same power than the last model.

Love the white wheels on the blue car. Looks stunning
How much were you quoted to upgrade to the 333? Do you already have a ECUteck license?
