STi Type R vs Type RA
Hi guys
Haven't been on here in a while, and I am looking to buy another scoob in the near future. I am really after an RA (as that was the last one I owned) but I love the Type R also. I have seen a few Type R's with roof vents and wondered if any of them had the sprint gearbox as in the RA, as this would be the crunch part.
Any advice appreciated guys.
Cheers,
Dan.

As I'm fairly new to Scoob's, as far as I'm aware the Type R's have the same close ratio gearbox as the RA's. If anyone more in the know could confirm that it would be handy!

Cheers Az thanks for the info.
I had a version 2 555 RA V Limited until March and the gearbox that had would top out at about 120mph (on the track) but from the off it was awesome. Coupled with the DCCD it was a fantastic car, I really miss it.
So if the Type R has the same gearbox, its a Type R for me. If not it'll be another RA.

Even another Ra won't nesissarily have the same gearbox. IIRC the later ones arn't quite as manically short as the V2.
The Ra's had a final drive of 4.44 whereas the R's 4.1 in general, as far as i know. However due to the number of limited editions, Sti Ra/wrx Ra's around I think you'd have to find a car first, then find out what box it has.
I think the only 2 door Ra's were the V5 and V6 special editions (with roof scoop). God knows what box they had

V6 Type R's have a different ratio 5th gear which is longer than the earlier V3-5 models to make it more 'bareable' on motorway journeys, from what I've heard most people don't really like that change as its quite a drop in gearing from 4th to 5th. I love the short ratio box, its mad.
