Surely it can't have destroyed the whole box?

If you want to drop it in with us, we'll take a look?

Impossible to say without seeing it and givig it a fll check, I've not seen one that's lunched itself to the extent that everything needs replacing before?

Can you get any photograph's from them of the damage?

My advide is dont go to a breakers. Go somewhere that has been proven to provide a great service for impreza's.

That depends on your location. There are plenty of subaru specialists around, Lateral performance, cotton competition, scooby clinic, scooby mania, APi, to name a few.

Post up you location and you will get pointed in the right direction.

Why not just buy a 6 speeder? there is one for sale on here with the diff, shafts etc for around 1500 quid.

Craig : The quote from your dealer is preposterous and is the price for a replacement box. As already pointed out it is unlikely you would ever need this. Your dealer will not have the skills to do other than replace the box which is not technically challenging.
A secondhand box may cost £400 but there is no guarantee as to its condition so you take a risk.
Typically, here, (Darlington area) removing and refitting a gearbox is £150 and this is what you would be charged by either DLM Subaru Specialists or John Pye Motors. PLUS lubricants and this is a same day job by prior appointment.
A specialist with gearbox building facilities like Scoobymania or John Pye will not know what is required until they inspect your box but the advantage of this is that the cost MAY be less and certainly not more than a secondhand replacement but it may take a day or two longer to obtain the correct parts unless the gearbox builder chosen already has them in stock.

Why not give Mike Tuckwood at Scoobymania a ring and talk it through with him. He will not rip you off.

Chances are you will be OK. Just miss out third gear and do not use excessive revs.

there having your pants down big stylee for that, i've just had a full PPG straight cut box builts for less than that.

the issue with driving it is if you stripped the teeth off 3rd gear then they could drop in and lock the box up, not what you want if your crawling at 40mph to get there. best bet get AA/RAC to get it picked up and dropped off, did that with mine and had its straight up to Scooby Clinic | The UK's Largest Independent Subaru Specialists | 01246 590 807 - Chesterfield S42 6QX , and that was from the isle of man lol. if they wont just get a transporter firm to do it, may cost you £200-£300 max but you'll save that on the rebuilding of the box.

personaly def recomend scoobyclinic, since they've just builtme a new box

Did whoever told you it would be expensive, tell you why?
Have they inspected the box?
What parts are required?
From what you describe, I would be surprised if it could not be repaired for a lot less than the cost of a second hand replacement.
Have you spoken to Mike at Scoobymania?
