Default Spooky thing I heard yesterday!

I'm sorry if it sounds a little morbid:

A friend of mine had been looking for a Type RA for track use for a while, he had been to look at a few rough examples and had pretty much given up.. Anyway I've been on holiday since last weekend and he phoned me when I got back to tell me he's bought a scoob.. He ended up buying a V-Limited 555 Colin McRae special edition, in that rancid blue colour!

Anyway.. He picked the car up from Bradford on Saturday 15th at just after 4pm...

How spooky is that!

When he got home and heard the news about the terrible accident at the McRae's house he was really freaked out by it.

The car is an absoloute minter, its done just over 50k miles, everything is how it should be except its got 4 pots and light weight wheels... He's talking about tracking it still though, I think hes nuts!

Didn't think there was such thing as a 555 V-Limited Colin McRae edition, or have I been told wrong?

Could be a stickered up 555 edition with the CM stickers rather than Carlos Sainz ones?

Does seem a strange concoction!

Its an RA Shell, i.e. its got the roof flap, and no holes for the skits.. Its got DCCD, STi spoiler, STi wheel/gearnob, STi fog covers, its the horrible flat blue colour, the seats are alcantara centered with the Colin McRae Crest up the top and both seats have embroyded signatures, Clolin on the drivers side and I'm not sure who on the passenger.. There is also the McRae crest on the boot lid and underneath it says "STi V-Limited"....

Its also got A/C and C/L but no power windows..

He had it R/R'ed to check it was running ok after he bought it and its running fine, with a FWHP figure of 276bhp.. Engine is completely standard.

Sounds like it's an STI v2 Type-RA V-Ltd, which isn't the same thing as the STI v2 555.

There's a PDF brochure floating around the net for that year which gives all the details.

Its the same as this but without the graphics:

The skirts have no clips holding them on, they are just screwed from underneath, if you pull them back from the car there are no holes in the sills...

Also do you guys think the McRae stuff was added then?

That's a 555, like mine. It doesn't have DCCD or the aluminium bits that came with the Type-RA. It does, however, have a roof vent, I/C waterspray (in place of ABS), electric windows and an electric aerial.

The Type-RA V Ltd looks similar but has some lightweight parts (suspension control arms? boot?), UK-style aerial in the A-pillar, DCCD, and a numbered V-Ltd plaque.

[edit]: my 555 has 'STI' embroidered seats; the V-Ltd is the one that has Colin's signature in yellow on the seats too - though there's some debate as to how consistent that was from car to car.

.
Yep its got ally bonnet & boot, strut brace, 4 point brace under neath, ally arms, numbered v-limited plate and a pillar aerial.. Its just the McRae seats (wrap around style) with crest and signature and the crest on the boot which is strange.. must have been added.. Could have been optional I suppose as its got factory a/c, c/l, skirts (without the pins) and mid level spoiler..

Only the STi2 Ltd Edition was officially labelled the 555, your mate has an STi 2 Type RA ltd (comes with DCCD & the Mcrae seats & Mcrae boot decal) ...confusingly 1000 STi2 555's Ltd's were made ...& 555 Type RA ltd's

Neither has an ally boot ...& both are painted 'rancid' 53C 'Sport blue' ...which is probably the only time a road going Impreza has had the same paint code as the WRC car!
