that sounds about right to me, beginning of the year i picked up an X last of the classic shape for 5,500 uk spec turbo2000. I chose the uk because the insurance was about 600 cheaper and also because of the colour i wanted

I'd get on confused.com or similar and check the insurance prices BEFORE going shopping - dont just assume the insurance will be affordable.
A UK one will be cheaper to insure, you may also find that at your age to try and insure an import it will cost more than the car !
Imports are quicker than UK cars, but not massively so ( it isnt like the UK turbo is a slow car ) - I would get the UK car and keep that for a few years, then if you need more speed get an import later.
£6K should get you a decent late model classic - but also look at around S reg onwards, which will be basically the same car, but you may find a better deal as £6K may be a bit low for a really nice X reg.

Give A-Plan a call in the insurance section. See what models you can afford. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Budget seems about right. There's plenty available, so if you spider-senses tell you something about one is weird, then leave and view another.

Classic for sale
I Have a 1998 UK car for sale see view my scooby or page 3 of for sale section. 55000 miles full service history full leather interior Blitz exhaust etc etc this car has been looked after and had money spent whenever needed. I am about ready to let it go for around £5000.
This is a good price, I saw a rusty K reg for sale the other day for £3800!!!!
Give it a thought.
