Question RCM or APS CAI ?????

Narrowed the search for my CAI to either a RCM or APS, they both cost roughly the same and i've heard good things about both of them but has anyone had experience of both or if not tell me what you like/dislike about the one u have.

The APS requires more tweaking to the MAP once fitted and being inside the inner wing i'd imagine should help reduce charge temperatures more added to which i'd not have to run a cold air feed to it as i would with the RCM.

Cheers Boyd.

I've already got a green cotton filter in mine and it does a good job but i'm looking at ways of reducing charge temperatures as well as getting more air into the mixture

APS works well.

Small filter, although not thought to be restrictive at 420-440bhp as tested by John Banks and AndyF iirc.

No experience of RCM one

I run the larger APS CAIK one. I think it's 70/75mm.

I wouldn't say it's a small filter either.

There was at first, i thought quite a lot more induction noise, but you get used to it, it really is not that much. Now i hardly notice it.

I opted for the APS one as it was not under the bonnet and i thought it may be quieter in the wing. I'm still using a cold air feed from the fog cover.

Have managed good results with an 18g too.

Haven't seen (in the flesh) or heard the RCMS, but it does come recommended.

Anything else you want to know about it?

Yes, I run one in mine.

Zak can fit and map. Some great prices on his mapping at the moment too.

Yeah he's already mapped it once Bob and the last time i spoke with Zak he said with the APS the maf would need to be rescaled which adds to the mapping costs.

Run a cold feed from the foglight direct to the airbox.

That way, the car only breathes from the front of the car. This also requires the rescaling of the maf but works about as good as you'll ever get.

Mine is now a custom 80mm CAI kit that we made ourselves mate. Previously it had a ram pipe direct to the airbox.

Worked fantastically untill we maxed the maf in its stock location so had to swap to a CAI kit.

Im currently using an AEM dryflow filter and that sits behind my intacke duct on the foglight

So the piping to the MAF goes straight to the location behind the foglight cover ??

I'd imagine if thats the case u must get way more cold air to the filter then you would from having it in the inner wing

Is it a custom made piece of kit Frayz ??

Sort of, i mean the duct from the foglight goes direct to the inlet on the airbox. The stock OEM snorkel is removed. The duct from the foglight goes direct to the inlet where the snorkel once was.

This way the car retains the oem airbox, which works beautifully and it can only breathe nice cool air from the duct mounted at the front of the car.

You will also see a ram air effect as the car travels faster and so ramming in more and more cool air into the box. THis is why the MAF will require re-scaling.

Personally the APS, as it breathes from the wing and not the hot engine bay.

The RCM one will be fine if its shielded and got a nice cold feed to it but i dont think it will get the low temps like the wing mounted APS one mate.
