As Pete says, a UK MY99 is a good bet at that budget - should be able to pick up a sound one with reasonable miles and plenty of history.

I just picked up a nice STI v2 555 for that. Although you may be able to get a v3 for your budget, with any s/h car I'd keep back a few quid to service it and sort out any problems.

But In that price range he's looking at an 'early' JDM ...before the Japanese even got 100/102 ...or are you saying there's a chance it's been run on 95?

My mates got a nice Terzo with 2.5 motor in it running about 330bhp. Mapped by Andy F.Its on a private plate and think he wants £4500 for it.

As already said, you can get a fantastic UK car for that money-rather than an early shagged-out import thats as rough as hell and cost you more to insure!
How about a UK 98 S reg with just 49,000, FSH, Leather, cruise ,uprated rear anti-roll-bar, droplinks, Tarox brakes, Pamperd and polished and never wrapped around a lamp post in Tokoyo!
Good luck with what ever you get.

There are certainly some knackered old imports around, but there's no way they're all dogs - they may just be a bit more expensive than a UK car of similar age and condition because you're getting a higher spec car.

It's nice to have the choice IMHO - a new Impreza appears for sale on Pistonheads about once every hour
