Unhappy Urgent Some Help and Adivce needed PLEASE

Posting in here because this is where most peeps read.

Here it goes :-
Coming home from work joined the motorway this evening there was a gap to pull out into the fast lane so i put her in third put my foot down the car got to about 4.5k Revs and the car just died on me. The car at the time still had electrical power all the lights on the dash were alight and i hit the hazards on and pulled over to the hard shoulder.

First thoughts this is something bad, oh my god what am i going to do. Got out and had a check under the bonnet make sure all belts and everything were intact everything seemed fine so i bit the bullet and started her back up.Oh no 'Check Engine' warning light is on but the engine started. Its searching through the revs at idle and whilst on the move it seems like its missing now and again.
Got the car home turned it off, left it for about ten mins started her back up and she started first time. Check Engine warning light still on and its still searching all over the place.

After Reading so much about peoples MAF sensors being sensitive is this a good place to start ????

Forgot to mention the car is an X Reg Classic Turbo2000

Any help will be very much appreciated Melon.

Not being a mechanic I cannot answer for sure, but I would not drive my car like that for any distance. You simply increase the chance of doing long term damage.

It could be the MAF, as a failure would bring up the CEL light, and make it run rough. It may be something else though...

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia browse tells you how to check for error codes.
Getting to 4500 revs sounds like limphome mode

Maf is possible, the MY99/00s were prone and I presume yours is one the last of them on an 01.

If it's searching like that for revs it sounds like the MAF could be a likely cause, they are around £85 new.
I would not use it to be on the safe side... ask in the Welsh section to see if any locals have a MAF you could try.

I crawled home dare i say it on the hard shoulder, and its parked up on the drive and isn't going anywhere. Didn't fancy leaving on the side of the motorway.

Cheers for the quick replies, I found the connectors to run the self diagnostic test and it came up with error code 23 which on Scoobypedia states its the Mass Airflow Sensor Circuit (Cheers BlackWRX).

Looks like its a new MAF for me, but will the car remain in LimpMode when i replace the MAF? If so how will i return the car to its normal state ? Reset the ECU?

Cheers Melon

I love this website there is so much information to be found and there is so many helpful people here too, God knows how much i would of ended up spending if it had to go into a garage to have this Fixed.

Once again thanks guys Ryan.
