How can you confirm that someone is the owner of a car?
Guys..
Is there any method, of being able to check if someone owns a car they report to own? Log books could easily be forged, etc.
Does DVLA give out the info, or a similar service?
Cheers

short answer - no
in law the registered keeper (ie name on V5) and owner are different things. In reality just go with the V5 but remember to get e reciept as V5 does not prove ownership.
Querky really and a wonder that it doesn't casue more problems than it does!

I can't see any confirmation about the owner on there. Where are you looking?
Hi amahrap
This isn't in relation to a buying a car.
Interesting about registration not being the same as ownership.
What about proving who it is registered to then? Is that possible?
Again, this isn't a one off, in relation to a specific car. This is to solve an ongoing problem where many of these will need to be checked on a regular basis.

IIRC
You enter the details from the V5 and then the check confirms it
So you will see when the last owner changed and how many owners its had
As for a regular check it could prove pricey
Perhaps email HPI and see if they can provide a taylored service

Sure the DVLA can do this if you give them a good reason, cost £2
there was a moan about it on tv once because a private clamping firm were simply ringing up the dvla with reg plates and sending out parking invoices to people who were illegally dropping off relatives at an airport i think it was. Thet were sending them a picture and then a ticket and avoiding the row on site.
All you needed was a good reason to call them up i think!

\think you may find that with a good reason and a bigger charge than £2 the DVLA will tell you the current keeper but as already stated they don't really know the details of the owner. Best answer is look at the V5 see who previous owner was and ring them to find out who they sold it to. Cheaper than DVLA probably more accurate info as they no longer have an interest in the car.
