Default Genuine STI or not?

Looking at purchasing a fairly standard STi (apart from 22B bodykit and Brembo brakes) from Japan to Cyprus. How do I check via long distance that it is an orginal STI and that the engine is not a WRX?

Have the following info

1997 V3

Engine Type EJ20KDW6HE
Transmission TY752VB5BA

Also has a plaque V Limited 251/1000

Has updated Forester dash from late 1997 and seats have logo WRC V3 1995, 1996 and 1997

Engine has standard silver manifold and standard black intercooler.I recall that the earlier STi did not have red manifold and silver intercooler.

Assistance is appreciated.

According to my reference, a TY752VB5BA transmission was fitted to the V3/4 WRX Type-RA and also the WRX Type-R V-Limited V4. This probably isnt what youre wanting to hear but Id guess that the applied model number (the only way to be certain) will be GC8E27D or GC8F27D (not an STI).

The model number is GC8E27D

So there is a possibility that it is a 280PS WRX V-Spec rather than being an STI. Seems like Subaru did a run of upgraded WRX to celebrate their rally success. Hence silver manifold and black intercooler, but with exactly same internal specs as 280ps STI. No Sti stickers on car as has been converted to 22b lookalike.

I at least want to end up with the 280ps engine, as it loooks like suspension has been upgraded with some Whitleine products, brakes upgraded to Brembo, Work wheels and standard looking exhaust and engine bay!! Has white faced STi dials.

Does anyone know if this has the 4.44 ratios and any other tell tale signs that I should look for? Intercooler spray, markings on exhaust etc.

Thanks for your help

No, there's not a possibility. It is an absolute certainty that you're looking at a WRX Type-R V-Limited. It is not an STI, no matter what you are told. The applied model number for an STI Type-R would be 2DD, 27D is a WRX Type-R.

Okay it is not a Sti. Thanks for clarifying. So it is a WRX Type R V Ltd which came with a 280ps STi spec engine and exhaust, 4.44 final drive?? Is the gearbox the same as the STi? i.e stronger with shorter ratios and do you know if the suspension was the same as the Sti or standard WRX spec Anything else that would not be the same as the Sti? I see no DCCD and no intercooler water spray. What turbo would these run, VF23?

Want to use the car as my daily transport as you will see that my current WRX is no longer suitable for daily driving. I am having withdrawal symptoms.
