05 Wrx 300
Hi guys,
Hoping to join the scooby brigade. but need some info please
Going to look at 05 WRX UK 300 today 11k miles, blue, gold alloys, normal WRX spoiler, blue alcantara trim usual spec for £13495 at scooby dealer.
Is this a good price, as car is in excellent order.
What is bhp for this model?
Anything I should look out for when test driving?
All advice greatfully accepted.
Cheers
Matty

If it's a wrx300 then it should be fitted with the PPP kit and have approx
260 bhp. Check the exhaust pipe - it should be a single large pipe with the 'prodrive' marker on it.
I have one - you'll like it !

The price seems pretty reasonable to me given the low mileage - the engine will be nice and loosened up. If you haven't driven a turbocharged car before remember that the power only really comes on when the turbo spools up at around 2.5-3K revs. Try coming off a few roundabouts in second or third keeping the revs >3K and flooring it.

It depends on what you want, but you could probably get a decent 05 STI for £15k, which if it was me would be my choice..
Blobeye prices are very good/bad depending on whether you're buying or selling at the moment, as it's soon to be two models old, IYSWIM..?
05 WRX owner BTW..

I sold mine for 14.5k this time last year....so make of that what you will. As others have said you could probably stretch to a decent STI. Though there is nothing wrong with a WRX300....

Hi mate
I just bought a UK Wrx 300 for £14.5 with 7352 miles on the clock and the 18" alloys......a great car to drive, makes me grin everytime I get in it. Major plus for me was manufacturers warrranty, after my GTO this was most desireable.

Update from test drive.
Car is an approved car at Dennis Common in Northumberland, see subaru site badged as a UK300 with normal WRX spoiler and exhaust. 1 owner, 11k miles and full history.
Car drove well, power was great, road holding great even though it was in rural northumberland with mud on the roads, but after my BMW, the build quality seemed a bit lacking. Before I get crucified, I am only stating my own impression and would love to know how you guys feel who have owned these cars for a while. I plan to keep the car a while but would like confirmation that they wont fall to bits.
Plus I am still looking round for insurance as due to a couple of indicrestions, the cheapest quote so far has been £900 with 350 xs for a 40 year old with 4 ncb and a tracker fitted.
Unless I can get the insurance down a bit, I may well have to leave the car.
All advice welcome.

Sounds like a great car. I nearly went for one, but decided I didn't want a blue one and they only came in that colour.
No, the quality isn't up to BMW standards, but it won't fall apart. Subaru have and still do well in reliability and customer satisfaction surveys. You may get the odd rattle from the dash in years to come, but nothing to worry about.
Insurance wise, try some specialists. Keith Michaels and A-Plan come highly recommended and should be able to nearly halve your quote.
Hopefully we will be welcoming you to Scooby ownership soon.

Ironically I insured through Diamond.....and it was about £450 I seem to remember.....35yr Full NCB etc etc....
Now a WRX with PPP was about £850....figure that!

Make sure they are right on the model, makes a big diff to insurance. If they don't recognise the WRX300 as a model in its own right, then you could get stiffed for the PPP as a mod, just like marky9074 said.
I'm around £450 (34, 5yr+NCB, tracker etc).
Crackin car, keeps most STis on their toes (flamin awaited...) - but if you think you might want more power in the future, you might be best paying that wee bit extra for the STi's 'internals' (flamin put oot).

I suggest you look in the insurance forum on here, and give those guys a ring
Saved me a small fortune on this years renewal. Well worth a few phone calls IMO. Money you save can buy a few mods
