Default Looking to buy in next 2 weeks, just a few questions....

Hi,

Well I finally sold my Civic Type R yesterday, best all round car that I've ever owned. So now I'm looking at buying the new shape STi PPP on an 06 plate so I just have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer for me, I've trawled through pages upon pages of search threads already but it takes hours!

Can anyone give me the definitive service schedule breakdown and cost for an STi PPP on an 06 plate?

What are the costs for discs and pads from a dealer or alternatively is there anywhere where you can get discounted prices or a better service from a specialised garage.

As I live in the North East just outside of Middlesbrough where is the best specialised garage/tuner to go to?

Are there any common faults or issues with the 06 Sti PPP that I should look out for when buying?

Any general advice or info as well as any answers to the above questions would be much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers I'll give them a call when the time comes for tuning etc.

If anyone else can add anything with regard to the original questions that would be great.

Actually what would you all say was a decent price for an 06 STi PPP from a dealership?

Thanks again

G

Don't suppose you'd be interested in this would you mate? I think the price is fairly good already, but i'd be open to offers.

Thanks for the message mate but I'm after a PPP'd version and in blue.

Must say that its at a decent price though and looks like a good example.

Cheers

ive had my 06 sti for 3 months now, absolutely love it. mines a cypriot import but have just got the warantee sorted out with im and all is well. European imports are in km in the service book which works out at every 9k miles, uk cars are every 10k i think. my last service was at 18k and was £241 but thats not a major service. as for problems the only issues i know about are the rear shocks, they tend to start clunking, mine have gone and need replacing under warantee and are being done shortly. its about to be remapped at the end of the month so i should have a very large smile on my face

Thanks for that Hallsy!

Anyother info on prices of service eg 10000 mile, 20000 mile, 30000 mile etc would be appreciated.

Also any prices on discs and pads would be good?

I know it comes down to driving style but what is the average length of time that pads and discs need replacing on said car?

Thanks again!!

UK servicing is 12/24/36 months (although there is milage limit 15K per year!!)

Service cost will vary, Parts are the same but dealer Labour per hour charge differers so very approx price also get SIDC member 10% discount

1000mile.... £100
12m..........£150
24m..........£200
36m..........£400

My Pads last about 7-8K miles and Discs about 22k milesbut do track days so should double that for hard driving

Dealer price for Pads front STI were £230 and £450 discs + £100 fitting + VAT

Other garage prices front Pads STI was £150 and £300 discs + £75 fitting + VAT

This is a very rough guide

IMHO

Tony

Thanks for that Tony, much appreciated!!

Is that SIDC member discount on parts from someone on this forum?

Also what qualifies getting that 10% discount, just simply being a member on Scoobynet?

Hello, fellow Ingleby Barwick resident! You might have seen me about in my 05 STI PPP in white, as it seems to be the only one in the area...

The only 'local' garage I trust with my Scoob is S G Petch in Richmond. The others are Jennings in Middlesbrough (though I heard that they have lost the Subaru dealership) and GMD in Durham. The latter have a terrible reputation, whilst Jennings is essentially a Ford/Isuzu/Suzuki/whatever dealers, and not a specialist like Petch.

Alright mate, you live in the Lowfields area don't you?

I'm sure I've driven past once or twice and seen your little gem on the drive, looks superb.

You wouldn't happen to have an aftermarket exhaust on your motor do you?

Just if it doesn't invalidate the warranty on the car I was thinking of switching the prodrive system for a Blitz Nur Spec R and it would have been ideal if I could have got an idea of what they definitely sounded like before I went ahead. Sound clips are good but you don't get a true idea of what the score is.

I was at Subaru in Boro off Cargo Fleet Lane around 3 months ago and all was still a go but I'm not sure now but will be heading down there in the next few days. If its gone then it looks like I'm going to Richmond as that place seems to be highly recommended.

Hi

I do indeed live on Lowfields, and have an Afterburner Vortex backbox on the car, but the rest of the system is PPP standard. It does invalidate the warranty in theory, but I had no problems with my last Scoob when that needed warranty work with an aftermarket backbox on it. Perhaps if it was a full decat then that might give Subaru more chance of wriggling out of work, depending on what was wrong with the car...

Good luck with your search - there seem to be quite a few Scoobs around I.B. (though very few 'classics') but I don't think I've seen any 06's...

Did the backbox swap make a real noticable change in the sound?

I was thinking of changing the backbox and midpipe although if any power loss is possible due to the change then I'd just swap the backbox for sound purposes. Although I'm guessing a Blitz catback won't really lose any power.

Alright Andy, good to see you too mate.

Yeah I remember reading on CTRO that you were over the moon, I think the consensus seems to be that obviously people are quite sad to see their R go as it is a quality motor but as soon as you get to grips with an STi, especially with the PPP then all is well.

I'm heading over to my local dealer on friday by the looks so fingers crossed they can source me one that I'm after as at the moment I'm in my dad's run around which is a Mazda 6! A far cry away from a CTR, nevermind an STi.

Yeh, after 3 years in the R and £1000's spent making it go quicker i was sad to see it go, used the wifey's VRs Fabia for a few weeks after it went before I found the right car for me, not looked back since other than the fact I still want to wave to R drivers who must think i'm mad!!

Look foward to seeing pics of the motor when you find one

Seconded - ask Alyn at AS about either Pagid or Ferodo brake pads, which are excellent.
